TWO-B THE BULLETIN OF THE CATHOLIC LAYMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA JUNE 27, 1942 Army Nurses Guests of N.C.C.W. in Augusta AUGUSTA, Ga.—The lounge of the new Catholic Youth Organiza tion club house was throunged on June 9 when the National Council of Catholic Women honored U. S. Army Nurses of Camp Gordon and Daniel Field Air Base with a tea. Groups gathered about the tables in the ballroom and on the verandas where sandwiches, cakes and punch were served. The serv ing table, placed before the fire place was exquisitely appointed with lace and crystal and decorat ed with red, white and blue flow ers. : ' Guests were entertained by Robert Baggott, who sang a group of songs, with Robert J. Watson accompany by Betty Jean Balk and Ann Lawless, in a ballet num ber, with Rebecca Printup accom panying, and by Miss Teresa Pu na ro at the piano. Guests included Miss Mary Galli, Chief Nurse, Camp Gordon; Miss Laura Erickson, Chief Nurse, U. S. Veterans Hospital; Miss Alice Stewart, Chief Nurse, Uni versity Hospital; Mrs. Olive Lynch Barbin, president, 10th District Nurses’ Association; Miss Loraine Schroer, Chief Nurse, Daniel Field Air Base; Miss Ethel Piehl, Olga Brayzale, Marie Kramalin, Frances Creamer, Lilah Severson, Maribell Blossfield, Elizabeth Akins, Mary E. Mahoney, Catherine L. Paul, Jessie A. Sorrells, Alta O. Shock, Catherine Henning, Kathryn Du bois, all of the Camp Gordon hos pital; Misses Austelle Colwall, Helen Wilcox, Alma Care, Ruth E. John Fitzgerald Dies in Savannah SAVANNAH. Ga. — John M. Fitzgerald, superintendent of the Highway Department of the City of Savannah, and a veteran of the World War, died here on June 15, funeral services being held from the Sacred Heart Church. Inter ment was in Bayonne, N. J. Born in Filmore, N. Y., Mr. Fitz gerald was a graduate of Cornell University with the degree of civil engineer. He was with the Central of Georgia Railway from 1909 un til 1931 as assistant to the chief engineer, as supervisor of bridges and buildings at Macon, and train master at Albany. After leaving the railroad in 1931 he engaged in various engi neering projects until he became superintendent of the highway de partment in 1937. During the World War he served as a first lieutenant of engineers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marguerite Toland Fitzgerald. Sister Anna Marie Dies in Atlanta ATLANTA, Ga. — Sister Anna Marie, of the Sisters of St. Jo seph of Carondelet, the oldest fac ulty member in the point of ser vice of the Sacred Heart School, died at the Sacred Heart Convent on June 19, funeral services being held from the Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. John Emmerth, S. M., officiating. Members of the Alumni Association recited the Rosary at the Convent on the night of Sister Anna Marie's death. Teaching the senior class, and in charge of the Alumni Associa tion, Sister Anna Marie had taught at the Sacred Heart School for 10 years. Previously she had taught at Mount St. Joseph's, in Augusta, for six years. Sister Anna Marie is survived by her mother, Mrs. E. B. Cassell, of Bloomington, Ind.. two brothers, Paul Cassell, of Cleveland, and Jo seph Cassell, of Asheville, N. C.; two sisters, Mrs. D. They were guests of the Augusta Deanery, Council of Cath olic Women. infirmary Auxiliary in Charleston Elects Officers (Special to Tbe Bulletin) CHARLESTON, S. C. — At the annual meeting of the Auxiliary of St. Francis Xavier Infirmary, held at the Infirmary, Mrs. Archie Willis was elected president. Other officers elected were Mrs. Edwin Trouche, vice-president; Mrs. Wal ter Speissegger, corresponding secretary; Miss May Condon, treasurer; Mrs. Daniel Maguire, auditor; Mrs. T. W. Reynolds, Mrs. G. M. Carter, and Mrs. J. A. Von Dohlen, members of the executive board. Mrs. A. J. Riley and Miss Rosa Riley were elected honorary life members, and Miss Mary Mc Alister was designated a life mem ber. The investment, purchasing and equipment committees reported that about 500 garments were fur nished for the obstetrical depart- men, and Mrs. Virgil D. Svendsen, chairman of the committee for furnishing a room in the new wing of the infirmary, reported a gen erous response. The Auxiliary for its defense work, in addition to its Red Cross work, organized five groups of workers to make band ages and dressings for the infirm ary, the units, under the super vision of Sister Mary Bernadine, having made about 800 bandage* and 8,000 dressings to date. Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D., J. U. D., Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta, presided at a meeting of the Trus tees of St. Joseph’s Home, held here last month. Members of the board attending included the Rev. John Clean, director of the Home; Estes Doremus, Atlanta, secretary, and Alvin M. McAuliffe, Au gusta. After the meeting had been opened with prayer by Bishop O'Hara, the financial report of the director was approved, the Trus tees giving Father Crean and the Sisters of St. Joseph a vote of thanks and confidence for the ex cellent manner in which the Home had been conducted since the last annual meeting. Motner Eulalia appeared before the meeting and stated her pleas ure at the way the Home was be ing operated under Father Crean’s direction. The meeting authorized the painting of the building that is used as the residence of the Sis ters, and the secretary was au thorized to have an engineer in spect the hot water tank in the engine room which is showing some signs of deterioration. The meeting closed with a prayer by Bishop O'Hara. Members of the board who were CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CLUB, SAVANNAH, HOLDS MEETING SAVANNAH, Ga.—Mrs. H. T.
