Summer Session in Memphis
THE DRAMATIC CLUB of
Christ the King High School in
Atlanta recently presented the J.
M. Barrie play, “Quality Street”,
before an audience that included
the Most Rev. Gerald P. O’Hara,
Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta.

Funeral in Savannah
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Miss Katherine Holden
O'Connor, who died July 8, were
held from the Cathedral of St.
John the Baptist, with the Most
Rev. Gerald P. O'Hara, Bishop of
Savannah-Atlanta, offering the
Requiem Mass. Assisting clergy
included the Rev. Joseph Kava-
nagh, the Rev. Aloyius Wachter,
O. S. B.. the Rev. John D. Toomey,
the Rev. Alexander Olalia, the
Rev. Angel V. Pengson, and the
Rt. Rev. Msgr. T. James McNa
mara, who delivered the sermon.
Miss O'Connor was the daugh
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pat
rick O’Connor. She was a member
of the Cathedral Altar Society and
Society and secretary of the Lea
gue of the Sacred Heart.
She is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Margaret Cash and Miss
Elisabeth O’Connor; a brother, Ed
ward F. O'Connor; three nieces.

of Atlanta, and Mrs. John Patter
son. of Bcimuda; six nephews, Cy
ril J. O'Connor, Brooklyn, Dr.

Dies in Savannah

FUNERAL IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Mrs. Genevieve Bero
Pinckney, wife of Eustace B. Pick-
ney. Sr., who died July 12, were
held from the Cathedral of St.
John the Baptist.
A native of Beaufort, S. C., Mrs.
Pinckney is survived by her hus
band; three sons, Eustace Pinck
ney. Jr., and Vincent Pickney,
Savannah, and Lieut. Jerome
Pinckney, Washington; three
daughters, Mrs. H. H. Golson, and
Mrs. D. F. Nather, both of New
York City, and Miss Marguerite
Pinckney, Savannah; three broth
ers. Constance A. Bero, Savannah;
John E. Bero, Bristol, Va.; Leo D.
Bero. New York City; and a sister,
Mrs. Cecil Smith. Houston, Texas,
and four grandchildren.

services for Peter F. Schmitt, who
died on July 17. were held from
the Cathedral of St. John the Bap
tist, Lieutenant C o m m a n d e r
Thomas Knox. U. S. N., a priest of
the Diocese of Savannah-Atlanta,
and a nephew of Mr. Schmitt, be
ing celebrant of the Requiem Mass.

A native of Baden. Germany, Mr.
Schmitt had spent the most of
his life here. He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Mary K. Schmitt, a
nephew. Father Knox, of the
United States Navy, and another
nephew and niece both of New
York.
Savannah Council. Knights of
Columbus, of which Mr. Schmitt
was a member conducted a me
morial service, with the Rev. Rob
ert Brennan. O. S. B., council
chaplain officiating.
JOHN THOMAS O’KEEFE
DIES IN CHARLESTON
CHARLESTON, S. C.—Funeral
services for Thomas John O’Keefe,
who died July 9, were held from
the Cathedral of St. John the Bap
tist.
Mr. O’Keefe, the son of John
O’Keefe, of Ireland, and Mrs.
Delia Hasting* O’Keefe, of
Charleston, had been an estimator
for the Walker, Evans and Cogs
well Company for nearly fifty
years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Bertha Curley O'Keefe; two sons.
Harold O’Keefe, of Washington,
and St. John O'Keefe, of Charles
ton; three daughters, Mrs. Eliza
beth Kirby, and Mrs. V. C. Mur
ray, of Charleston, and Mrs. Floyd
Phillips, of Philadelphia; two sis
ters, Mrs. John J. Sullivan, of
Augusta, and Mrs. C. M. DuPont,
Charleston, and three grandchild
ren.

fessional training of the highest
quality for the teacher of the
elementary grades, although strict
ly content courses are also being
offered in the fields of English,
General Science and History.
Among the communities en

let, Augusta; the Sisters of Mercy
from Augusta, Savannah, Atlanta,

DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for August Wolbert, who died
on June 22, were held form the
Cathedral of the Immaculate Con
ception.
Born in Cologne, Germany, 89
years ago. Mr. Wolbert was one
of the first and one of the largest
bee-keepers in this section.
