St. Genevieve-of-the- Pines, Asheville St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines, Asheville, North Ca rolina, is one of the leading educational institutions in the South, including a junior college, an academy. and a commercial school for young women, ami a grammar school for boys and girls. It is conducted by the Sisters of Christian Education, who also con duct St. Joan of Arc parochial school in Asheville, and the Little Flower Camp, near Hendersonville, one of the most attractive summer vacation camps in this section. The Rev. John A. Walker is the chaplain at St. Genevieve’s. St. Genevieve’s Holds Graduation Exercises (Special to The Bulletin) ASHEVILLE, N. C.—The thirty- sixth annual commencement exer cises of St. Genevieve-of-the- Pines began with a Baccalaureate Mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Eugene J. McGuinness, D. D., Bishop McGuinness also de livered the sermon, his subject being “Christianity Versus Pagan ism”. Following the Mass, the graduates were guests of the Rev erend Mother and the faculty at a breakfast. Bishop McGuinness also presid ed at the Junior College gradua tion exercises, awarding diplomas to members of the graduating class, who were addressed by the Rev. Msgr. Joseph L. O'Brien, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Charleston. Students of the grammar school presented “Forest Brothers”, an operetta in three acts, with mem bers of the seventh grade in the principal roles. The program of the graduation exercises of the Academy includ ed a salutatory by Virginia Gib son, the valedictory by Audrey Branch, an allegory, “Ad Astra Per Aspera”, by members of the senior, junior and sophomore classes, and musical numbers by Betty Pollock, Margaret Fairlie, and chorus AWARDS AND PRIZES Winners of prizes and awards were announced by Anthony Red mond, and presented by the Rev. Louis J. Bour, M. A., Ph. L., pastor of St. Lawrence Church. French Prize, offered by Mr. Coppinger, French Consul at Philadelphia, won by Audrey Branch. Religious Prize, won by Virginia Gibson. Latin Prize, of fered by Miss Sophie Redwood, of Biltmore Forest, a former student of St. Genevieve’s, won by Grace Schoenheit. Mathematics Prize, offered by Mrs Mario Bianculli, of Knoxville, a former student, won by Ruth Carroll. English Composition Prize, offered by Mrs. Frank Steinhart, of Havana, Cuba, a former student, won by Marjorie Jane Johnson. The two students obtaining the highest scholastic average, whose names were inscribed on St. Gene vieve’s Honor Plaque, were Lillian Woodruff and Ann Weaver. Grace Schoenheit was awarded the ten nis trophy awarded by Mrs. C. G. Memminger, of Asheville, and the Field Day trophy presented by Mrs. Holt Callaway, of Bronxville, N. Y. Katherine Davis won the .archery prize offered by Miss Jane Handy, of Asheville, and the bas ketball trophy offered by Miss MARRIAGES o- FORTUNE-PARKS o O ELIZABETH CITY, N.
