Offers Attractive
Program in August

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Varied en
tertainment, with an assortment
of recreation, was offered during
August at the USO Club operated
here jointly by the National Cath
olic Community Service and the
Jewish Welfare Board.
Among the attractions at the
club during the month were sev
eral dances, bridge games, motion
pictures, radio-drama auditions,
pie bingo, ping pong tournament,
cabaret night, a splash party,
USO Town Hall, music hours, or
chestra and choral rehearsals, and
gatherings of the art and camera
clubs.
Besides the entertainments at
the club house, through arrange
ments made by Eugene Bergmann,
NCCS director, several dances
were given for service men by
members of St. Patrick’s parish
in Phenix City, Alabama.
MACON ALTAR BOVS
HOLD ANNUAL PICNIC
MACON, Ga.—The annual picnic
for the altar boys of St. Joseph’s
parish was held late in July on
the estate of A. Jung, located about
ten miles out of the city. Various
sports enjoyed included swimming
in the Jung pool where the boys
dived for coins cast into the water
by the Rev. Robert Bryant, S. J.,
administrator of St. Joseph’s
Church.
The third Sunday in each month
is now the regular Communion
Sunday for the altar boys at St.
Joseph’s who are guests of the
Children of Mary and other parish
societies at breakfast following
the Mass.
Missions Being Held
in St. John’s Parish,
Waynesville, N. C.

WAYNESVILLE, N. C. — A
series of missions are now being
conducted in the extensive area
that comprises the parish of St.
John’s Church here, where the
Rev. Ambrose Rohrbacher is pas
tor. The schedule of the missions,
which began on August 16 and
will continue through September
5, are being conducted by the
Rev. Dr. H. Louis Motry, Dean
of the School of Canon Law of
the Catholic University of Ameri
can, and the Rev. Benedict Hanley,
C. P., of St. Paul’s Monastery De
troit.
The missions are scheduled as
follows: St. John’s Church.
Waynesville, August 16-22, given
by Dr. Motry; St. Joseph’s Church,
Bryson City, August 23-29, given
by Dr. Motry; American Legion
Hall, Franklin, given by Father
Hanley, and The Community
House, Sylva, given by Father
Hanley.
Lectures, to which ■ the public
is invited, are given each evening.
The addresses are mainly devoted
to a discussion of the fundamental
truths of right living and the eter
nal destiny of man.

churches and religious organiza
tions generally,” by the Nazis in
occupied countries is described in
a 10,000 word report issued on re
ligious persecution in Europe by
the Inter-Allied Information Com
mittee in London.
Frank J. McNeill
Dies in Thomson
THOMSON, Ga.—Frank Johnson
McNeill, one of Thomson’s most
prominent citizens and operator
of the McNeill Brothers Box Fac
tory here, died on August 9, fu
neral services being held from
the Blanchard Funeral Home, the
Rev. James E. Doherty, assistant
pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, Au
gusta, officiating.
Mr. McNeill is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Pauline Bronders Mc
Neill; two sons, John T. McNeill of
Thomson, and Frank J. McNeill, of
Chicago; a grandson, John T. Mc
Neill, Jr.; three brothers, David
A. McNeill, Sr., of Thomson, Ed
ward B. McNeill, of Thomson, and
Thomas C. McNeill, of Chicago;
one sister, Mrs. Robert L. Gibson,
of Thomson, and several nieces and
nephews.
MISS ANNIE TEUTON
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SA\ ANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Miss Annie Catherine
Teuton, who died on July 29, were
held from the Sacred Heart
Church.
Miss Teuton is survived by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allie G.
Teuton; two sisters, Miss Alma M.
Teuton and Miss Agnes Teuton,
two brothers, James L. Teuton,
Savannah, and Allie G. Teuton,
Jr., U. S. Army, and several aunts
and uncles.
JOSEPH BUTTIMER
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Joseph J. Buttimer, city
fireman for more than thirty years,
who died on July 27, were held
from the Cathedral of St. John
the Baptist.
Mr. Buttimer is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Margaret C. Buttimer;
two sons, P. J. Buttimer and John
M. Buttimer; two daughters, Mrs.
E. W. Christiansen and Mrs. J. M.
Fleurist, Jr., both of New Orleans,
five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Roger,
son, Mrs. Nell Cooney, Mrs. Joseph
A. Rossiter, and Mrs. W. J. Berry,
all of Savannah, and Mrs. William
Lenahan, West Palm Beach, eleven
grandchildren and a number of
nieces and nephews.
MICHAEL DUGGAN
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Michael M. Duggan, who
died July 21, were held from the
chapel of the Little Sisters of the
Poor. Mr. Duggan is survived by
a sister in Kansas City.
MRS. ELLA C. MADRIN 6
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Funeral
services for Mrs. Ella C. Madrin,
widow of James S. Madrin, who
died on August 12, were held
from Our Lady of Lourdes Chap
el, Port Wentworth.
A native of Charleston., Mrs.
Madrin has resided at Port Went
worth for twenty-five years. She
is survived by one daughter, Mrs.
Arthur Samuels, Port Wentworth;
one son, Claude T. Madrin,
Charleston; one brother, William
A. O’Brien, Charleston; two sis
ters, Miss Anne B. O’Brien and
Miss Jennie M. O’Brien, both of
Charleston, and one granddaugh
ter, Dorothy Jean Madrin, of
Charleston.
DENNIS J. SHEA
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Funeral
services for Dennis J. Shea, who
died August 1, were held from
the Cathedral of St. John the Bap
tist. A native of Savannah, Mr.
Shea was a retired employe of
the Southeastern Warehouse and
Compress Company. He is 'surviv
ed by a cousin, Mrs. Frank Wil
liams.
