St. Mary’s Cathedral Wilmington. N. C.
St. Mary's Church, Wilmington, North Carolina, serves a parish which has had a-resident pastor
since 1845. It was in Wilmington the illustrious Cardinal Gibbons resided when lie was Vicar-Apostolic
of North Carolina. The present pastor of St. Mary’s is the Very Rev. Monsignor Cornelius E. Murphy,
who was recently elevated to the dignity of a Papal Chamberlain by His Holiness Pope Pius XII. The
assistant pastor at St. Mary’s is the Rev. James Tevlin. St. Mary’s parochial school is conducted by
Sisters of Mercy from Belmont,
St. Thomas Church serves the Colored parish of the city, and is a charge of the Josephite Fathers,
with the Rev. Stephen J. Hogan, S. S. J., as pastor. Franciscan Sisters, of the Baltimore community
conduct the Colored parochial school.
Memorial Service
Held at Citadel
CHARLESTON, S. C.—Spon

morial service to honor those who
have given their loves in defense
of the United States, especially
the Citadel’s patriotic dead, was
held at the Citadel on Armistice
Day.
A Solemn Requiem Mass was
offered in the school chapel by
the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph L.
O'Brien, pastor of St. Patrick's
Church, with Chaplain Robert E.
Sheridan, U. S. A., of the Charles
ton Port of Embarkation, and
Chaplain Martin J. Carroll, of
Stark General Hospital, as deacon
and subdeacon, and the Rev. Law-
rance McLaughlin, Catholic chap
lain at the Citadel, master of
ceremonies. Cadets L. M. Doo
ly and J. R. Fitzpatrick served as
acolytes. Music for the Mass was
rendered by the choir of the Cath
edral of St. John the Baptist, with
Mrs. Thomas F. Mosimann at the
organ.
Cadet Lee S. Abiouness, presi
dent of the Citadel Newman Club,
was in command of the Catholic
cadets, who formed two companies
and marched to the chapel pre
ceded by a color guard command
ed by Cadet D. H. Collins with
Cadets E. P. Minion and J. J. Ma
loney as color bearers. Cadets W.
S. Cremen and W. J. Nailyas, col
or corporals, and W. R. Affleck,
J. D. Hollowell, A. J. Kunze and
H. J. Lacey, Jr., as non-commis
sioned escort. Cadet Abious-
ness’ staff consisted of Cadets J.
J. Mayer, J. J. Monaghan, G. C.
Outlaw, C. C. Bourquardez and D.
C. Nimmich.
The guard of honor, about the
catalfalque, consisted of Cadets R.

the Mass, “taps" was sounded by

CLUB AT BELMONT
ABBEY COLLEGE
BELMONT, N. C. — Under
the direction of Prof. Guillermo
De Rozlo, of Charlotte, the Bel
mont Abbey College Glee Club
has begun its “urrent year's work
in preparation for its concerts.
Prof. De Roxlo. who is the direc
tor of the Charlotte Symphonic
Orchestra, has succeeded Jack
Houren, now U. S. O. director in
Charleston, S. C., as director of
the club. As in previous years,
the glee club will be augmented
by .students from the Sacred Heart
Academy here.
