JOSEPH'S INFIRMARY, ATLANTA ATLANTA, Ga.—A refresher course for inactive nurses who plan to return to active nursing duty, has been begun at St. Joseph's Infirmary, under the sponsonship of the Fifth District Nursing Council for War Service. In order to qualify for the course, it was necessary to be a registered nurse in Georgia, or qualified for registration in Geor gia or iii states having reciprocity with Georgia and to plan to re turn to active nursing. Applications were made through Mrs'. Ruth C. Hayes, executive sec retary of the Fifth District Nurs ing Council for War Service. FATHER MAUREAU AT ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL AUGUSTA, Ga.—The Rev. A. L. Maureau, S. J., at one time assistant pastor of the Sacred Heart Church here, and who was a member of the faculty of the old Sacred Heart College, is now at the Alexian Brothers Hospital in St. Louis. Father Maureau, vtho was for several years assistant pastor at St. MSry Star of the Sea ChurCh, Key West, Fla., and more recently stationed at the Sacred Heart Church, Tampa, has been ill for some months, and before going to St. Louis was at the Spring Hill College infirmary. The Rev. W. A. Mulherin, S. J., accompanied Father Maureau from Spring Hill to St. Louis. TWO CATHOLIC TEACHERS were killed by a bomb which de molished an elementary school in London killing more than forty children and injuring many others. The school was not Catholic. L. A. MARTIN J. CALLAGHAN (Special to The Bulletin) MACON, Ga.—At a meeting of the Macon Branch of the Catholic Laymen’s Association, held on February 14, Martin J. Callaghan, by a unanimous vote, was re-elect ed president, and all other offi cers, with few exceptions were also retained in office. In order to fill the vacancy, J. V. Sheridan was elected a vice-pres ident, succeeding Edward P. Lack- ay, who is now serving in the armed forces of the United States. William H. Mitchell was added to the executive committee, and a publicity committee was appoint ed, with John J. McCreary as chairman. The present officers of the Ma con Branch are now: Martin J. Gallagher Funeral in Charlotte CHARLOTTE, N. C.—Funeral services for Mrs. May C. Gallagher, who died on February 6, were held from St. Patrick’s Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Arthur R. Freeman, P. A.; the Rev. Patrick N. Galla gher, of Richmond, Va., the Rev. Ambrose Gallagher, O. S. B., of Belmont; the Rev. Phillip Tierney, O. S. B.. of Charlotte, officiating. A native of Philadelphia, Mrs. Gallagher came to Charlotte as a young girl and was married to Phillip T. Gallagher, whom she survived by 12 years. Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Farris, of Charlotte; a son, Phillip Gallagher, of Roanoke Rapids; a grandson, A. C. Farris, Jr., of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. John Holder, Phila delphia, and Mrs. Thomas G. Wil liams, Deerfield Beach, Fla. GEORGE A. FINLEY DIES IN EHRHARDT CHARLESTON, S. C. — Funeral services for George Adelbert Fin ley, of Ehrhardt, who died on Feb ruary 16, were held from St. Jos eph’s Church here, the Rev. Al bert Feases officiating. Mr. Finley was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Spanish War Veterans, and was a retired engineer of the Atlantic Coast Line Railway. He was a native of Windsor, On tario, Canada, the son of Samuel Finley and Mrs. Anne Sexton Fin ley, of Canada. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Agnes Mounsey; a daughter, Mrs. J. K. Lee, of Ehrhardt, and several brothers. MOTHER ROSE O’HARA DIES IN NEW YORK MRS. JAMES KENNY DIES IN CHARLESTON CHARLESTON, S. C.—Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabet! Kenny, widow of the late Jam?; Kenny, who died February 15 were held from St. Joseph"; Church. A native of Charleston, Mrs. Kenny was the daughter of Mich ael King and Mrs. Hester Gil- breth King. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George LaRoehe: a son, Joseph D. Lieonart, of Brooklyn; three nephews, Harold Fox, James Fox, and Robert Las siter, all of Charleston; a niece. Mrs. V. R. News Service) NEW YORK—Mother Rose O'Hara, 70. of the Missionary Sis ters of the Sacred Heart, who has died here, made her final vows in the presence of Blessed Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, first American citizen to be beautified and founder of the religious com munity. A native of Pittston. Pa., Moth er Rose taught in the public schools and became a principal before she entered religious life in 1900. Her first assignment was as supervisor of schools of the com munity in Chicago. Later she was transferred to New Orleans, where she remained 18 years as principal and teacher of St. Mary's Italian School. She was transferred to high school work in this city 13 years ago and aided in the found ing of a high school under the direction of Mother General Della Antoinetta. She visited Rome for the beatification of Blessed Mother Cabrini in 1938. NEW CATHOLIC CHAPLAINS AT NEW RIVER MARINE BASE NEW RIVER, N. C.,—-Two chap lains from the chaplains’ school at the Naval operating base at Norfolk, with the ranks of lieu tenants, junior grade, have been given assignments here. They are the Rev. John J. Daley, of Worces ter, Mass., and former missionary in Korea, who has been returned to this country as an exchange prison er of the Japanese, and the Rev. JOSEPH COX DIES IN ADRIAN ADRIAN. Ga. — The Rev. Nich olas J. Frizelle. pastor of the Im maculate Conception Church, in Albany, officiated at funeral ser vices for Joseph Cox. who died at his home here on February 4. Mr. Cox. who operated a shoe repair business at Adrian, was a native of North Carolina, and was received into the Church in Jan t ary of this year. He is survived by his wife, and a daughter. Miss Martha Elams Cox, of Adrian. - Mrs. Mary L. Browne Dies in Columbia COLUMBIA, S. C.—Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Leonard Browne, were held Monday, Jan uary 25, at St. Peter’s Church. The Requiem Mass was offered by the Very Rev. Martin C. Mur phy, pastor. Also present in the sanctuary were the Rev. Thomas J. Mackin, the Rev. Charles J. Baum and the Rev. William G. Mulvihill. Mrs. Browne who had been a patient sufferer in her illness, was the widow of ten weeks, of Mi chael L. Browne, well-known for mer Augustan. She was born and reared in Sumter, S. C., and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, Sumter, class of 1889. The daugh ter of Barnard and Ellen Fagan Leonard, she was an active work er in charity anc’. in parish affairs. Mrs. Browne is survived by one son, Lieut. J. G. M. Browne, U. S. N.. stationed at Norfolk, Va., and one daughter, Mrs. Willis Dozier, the former Mary Margaret Browne, and two grandsons, Duncan and Michael Dozier, and the following close relatives in Augusta: Mrs. Deland Walters, Miss Loretta Leonard; in Atlanta by Mrs. Thomas A. Rousseau and Mrs. J. W. Favors; in Macon, Mrs. Lewis Wilson and Mrs. Brad Newsome. MRS. ANNE STASTNY DIES IN ANDERSON ANDERSON, S. C.—Funeral services for Mrs. Anne Stastny, who died on January 26, were held from St. .Joseph’s Church. Mr. Stastny, a native of Czecho slovakia, was a daughter of the late Frank Holub and Mrs. Anne Holub, of Czechoslovakia, but for the past .hirty-eight years had made her home in Anderson. She is survived by five sons, Antone Stastny, John Stastny, O. P. Stastny, Frank Stastny and Rudolph Stastny; two daughters, Miss Marie Stastny and Mrs. Anne Walker. JAMES F. SCARBOROUGH FUNERAL IN CHARLESTON CHARLESTON, S. C.—Funeral services for James Francis Scar borough, who died February 15, were held from St. Joseph's Church. A native of Charleston, he was the son of James F. Scarborough and Mrs. Eliza McCarthy Scar borough, of Ireland. He is sur vived by his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth Richbourgh: three sons, James F. Scarborough, Jr., Harry Scarborough and William J. Scarborough, and a daughter, Miss Lilly Scarborough. MRS. GEORGE MEITZLER DIES IN CHARLESTON CHARLESTON, S. C—Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Fran ces Meitzler, widow of George Henry Meitzler. who died Feb. 9, were held from St. Patrick's Church. A native of Charleston. Mrs. Meitzler was the daughter of Wil liam Gordon Doran and Mrs. Mary Burns Doran, both of Ireland. She is survived by a daughter. Miss Maybelle Meitzler, three sons, John D.
