For the past month the CYPA
has been very busy electing offi
cers, holding tournaments, plan
ning future entertainments, etc.
Officers who will govern the club's
activities for the coming year were
elected June 14, as follows:
Tom Toomey, President: Regina
Ward, Vice President; Edith Loyal,
Secretary; Marian Arthur, Treas
urer; Frank Young, Sergeant-at-
Arms; Margaret Lyons, Agnes
Reese, Catherine Callahan, Execu
tive Committee. Agnes Reese later
resigned. Her wedding was an
event of the past month. In her
place, the members nominated and
elected Pauline Moody.
Club members, in a body, re
ceived Holy Communion at St.
Patrick’s Church, July 11, at the
8:00 Mass. Immediately afterwards
the members held a communion
breakfast at a local restaurant.
Visitors on this occasion were
Brian Mulherin, Marian and Elea
nor Knuck and Pvt. Paul Belcher.
Tournaments are still being held
Sunday afternoons at the Ellis
Street USO. Beginning at 3:30 and
lasting until 6:00, these games are
under the personal supervision of
members of the CYPA.
At a recent meeting, plans were
under discussion for a gigantic
club reunion to be held in the fall
when the days are cooler. Invita
tions will include, not only those
faithful members who have stuck
to the club through thick and thin,
but also prospective members, and
those serving with the armed
forces both in the United States
and overseas. The reunion will
have gigantic proportions, for it is
hoped this will establish a custom
to be kept up by future club mem
bers. It will be the first reunion
ever attempted by the CYPA. and
they are counting on the many
Catholic families of Augusta to aid
in its success. Future plans will
be announced at a later date.
Rev. J. J. Malloy holds Study-
Clubs after club meetings. He
gives members an opportunity to
know and understand their reli
gion better by his informal talks.

WAR SERVICE COUNCIL
ACTIVE IN ATLANTA
ATLANTA, Ga. — Catholic wo
men in Atlanta have learned that
there is a place for everyone in
war effort and the combined work
of the parishes is proceeding at a
good pace.
Various phases of war work,
sponsored by the Catholic War
Service Council of Atlanta, were
discussed at the July meeting of
the advisory board. A report of
Red Cross activity for May anti
dune was given by Mrs. Dowdell
Brown. Red Cross chairman. This
report revealed that 4.000 hours
S'vc j were given during these two
months to canteen work, surgical
dressings, knitting, sewing, nurses'
aid, staff assistants. Junior Red
Cross, production, and there were
also a large number of Blood Bank
donors.
Many of the members of the
Council are actively engaged in
business and busy with household
duties, yet they find time to co
operate successfully in the war
effort.
In line with the war effort is the
Council’s weekly open house for
men and women in the service,
held each Sunday afternoon at the
Knights of Columbus Club. These
friendly open house entertain-
‘ments provide an attractive place
to spend leisure hours, giving the
boys and girls in the service op
portunity for relaxation and rec
reation.
