Captain in the Chaplains Corps.
lather Grady, a native of Sa
vannah, was ordained to t|ie priest
hood by the Most Rev. Michael J.
Keyes, S. M., D. D., at the Cathe
dral in Savannah on May 12, 19112.
After serving as assistant rector
of the Cathedral, Father Grady
was appointed pastor of St. Mary’s
Church in Home. Ifc volunteered
lor duty as an Army chaplain, and
after attending the Chaplains
Training School at Harvard Uni
versity, was commissioned as first
lieutenant in February' of 1943.

HOLDS FATHERS’ NIGHT
SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Fath
ers’ Night meeting of the Parent-
Teacher Association of the Blessed
Sacrament School was held March
9, and featured by a St. Patrick’s
Day program presented by the pu
pils. Father Feeley. played for the
dance numbers while Sister Mary
Lois accompanied the singers.
Students taking part included Jane
Redmont, Monica Uvila, Billy Ken
ny, George McKinnon, and boys
and girls of the second, third,
fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth
grades. The Rev. Daniel J. Bourke,
pastor of the Blessed Sacrament
Church, awarded letters to mem
bers of the school football team.
PROTESTANT MINISTER PAYS
TRIBUTE TO POPE PIUS XII
BOSTON, -- The Rev. John
Haynes Holmes, of the Community
Church of New York, a leading
Protestant minister in this country,
in an address before members of
the Twentieth Century Club here,
paid the following tribute to Pope
Pius XII:
“I have absolute confidence in
the present Pope. To me the Pope
has taken the only possible posi
tion for the Christian Church, Pro
testant or Catholic. He is for the

FATHER McCANN
The Rev. James McCann, C. SS.
R., who was appointed pastor of
St. Mary’s Church, Rome, Geor
gia, in February, 1943, to replace
the Rev. James H. Grady, who had
enlisted as an Army chaplain.
Father McCann came to Georgia
in 1942 when the Redemptorisl
Fathers were placed in charge of
Dalton and the surrounding miss
ionary territory. He is also pastor
of St. Bernadette’s. Church, Cedar-
town.
MISSION AT ST. MARY’S
CHURCH IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Rev.
Clarence Howard, S. V. D., one
of the few Colored priests in the
United States, conducted a week’s
mission at St. Mary’s Church here
from February 27 to March 5, at
the invitation of the Rev. A. J.
Ball, S. M. A-, the pastor.

adelphia, officiated at thg formal
opening of the new Seminary of
the Good Shepherd and laid the
first stone of the Villanova College
of Cuba, on February 25. Cardinal
Dougherty was met at the airport
in Havamta by the Most Rev.
George J. Curuana, Apostolic Nu
ncio to Cuba, the Cuban Minister
of State and a large delegation of
Cuban clergy and laity.
Something novel in wartime chapel windows is this stained glass
rosfe window in the Chapel of Our Lady of Victory, at the Naval
Operating Base. Norfolk. Va The Blessed Virgin holds a model war
ship, of the U S. Destroyer Escort Class. At her feet a sailor and a
Marine kneel in prayer In the background design of sea and sky,
with winged cherubims leading the way, are replicas of navy craft,
from barges to battleships, planes, blimp, tanks, sub-chaser and anti
aircraft gun. Below the figure of the Blessed Mother is a medieval
dragon, symbol of the evil our forces will destroy. The window was
