One of the outstanding Catholic
citizens of Newman, Ga., Ellis
Mansour, who was a lieutenant-
colonel on the staff of Former
Governor Eugene Talmadge, has
also been appointed a member of
the present governor of Georgia,
his fellow-citizen of Newnan, the
Honorable Ellis Arnall.
Mr. Mansour, affectionately
known to all Newnan as “Pop”,
was just recovering from a serious
illness when the news of his new
appointment came to him. The
esteem in which he is held by the
people of his home city is evi-
lenced by the fact that during his
illness prayers for his recovery
were offered in various Protestant
churches in Newman. He owns
and operates the Mansour De
partment Store, and it is in his
house that Mass is offered each
Sunday for the Catholic popula
tion of Newman. It is Mr. Man-
sour’s most fervent wish that he
will soon see the day when New
man, now a mission of St. Peter’s
parish in LaGrange, will have its
own Catholic church.
