LIEUTENANT McMAHON
Miss Doreen McMahon, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. McMahon,
members of Christ the King Cath
edral parish in Atlanta, was re
cently promoted to the rank of
Lieutenant-Junior Grade, in the
WAVES.
Lieutenant McMahon is a gradu
ate of Sacred Heart School, Atlan
ta; Fontbonne College, St. Louis,
and Emory University in Atlanta.
She was commissioned an ensign
in November, 1942, and received
her training at the U. S. Naval
Midshipman’s School, Mount Holy
oke College, South Hadley, Mass.
During December, 1942, and Janu
ary, 1943, she served on temporary
duty at the Naval Training School
at Smith College, Northhampton,
Mass., and at Mount Holyoke. She
was one of the seven women offi
cers who reported to the U. S.
Naval Training School in Milledge-
ville, Georgia, prior to its opening
in January of last year. At present
she is Placement, Personnel and
Public. Relations Officer at the
training school.
Country Dance at
Macon NCCS Club

MACON, Ga.—Gingham dresses
and GI fatigue uniforms were in
style at the country dance given
at the USO-NCCS Club on March
8th.
Miss Louise Cutler, of the club
staff, used a definitely rural note
in the decoration of the dance
hall, and the homespun theme pre
vailed in games and square dances.
Games during the evening were
directed by Miss France Lowe,
Bibb County home demonstration
agent, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Young led and called the square
dances. Mrs. Robert Wynne and
Mrs. J. R. Stine assisted in dec
orating the club-
A graduation hop was given on
March 12 for the WAVE trainees
who will finish their course at the
Georgia State College for Women
in Milledgeville.
COMMEND ST. JOSEPH’S
SCHOOL IN BRUNSWICK

BRUNSWICK, Ga.—Sister Rose
Anita, principal of St. Joseph’s
School here, has received two
very complimentary letters in ref
erence to the fine record made
by the school during the Fourth
War Loan campaign.
One was from Philip J, Coyle,
consultant, education secretary,
Treasury Department, Washington,
which refers to the sale of $2,755
in War Bonds through the school
here as an outstanding record,
especially in view of the fact that
there arc but 150 pupils attending
St. Joseph’s.
The other letter, from Capt.
Esther V. Newkirk, of the Army
Nurses Corps, congratulated St.
Joseph’s on its wonderful sale of
bonds and stamps. Captain New
kirk is an alumnus of the school.
SAVANNAH BLUE JACKET
COMPLETES TRAINING
SAVANNAH, Ga.—James Sulli-
can Bradley, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph L. Bradley, has completed
his course of training at the
Naval Air Technical Training Cen
ter, Memphis, and-is now an avia
tion machinist's mate. He grad
uated last June from Benedictine
Military School and is an active
member of the Catholic Youth
Organization in Savannah. He has
a sister in the Army Nurses’ Corps-
