ATLANTA WAR SERVICE COUNCIL AWARDS SERVICE PINS—Members of the Catholic War Ser
vice Council in Atlanta awarded sterling silver service pins to junior hostesses who have served more than
100 hours at the Council’s weekly open house parties at the Knights of Columbus Club. Girls of all de
nominations act as hostesses at these affairs for service men, which are the Council’s part in the wartime
program of. the National Catholic Community Serv ice. The picture shows only a few of the large num
ber of grils who were awarded pins at the Council’s recent second birthday celebration. Girls from all
the Atlanta parishes are shown in the above picture. They are, standing, at left, Miss Mary Catherine

TO CONDUCT RETREAT
AT ST. VINCENT’S SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga., — The Rev.
Austin Goff, O. F. M., of St.
Joseph's Church, East Rutherford,
N. J., wil conduct the annual Re
treat which is sponsored by the
Sodality of the Blessed Virgin for
students at St. Vincent Academy.
The Retreat will be held during
the first three days of Holy Week,
April 3 -5.
Father Goff is the first Francis
can priest to be a retreat-master
at St. Vincent’s.

USO-NCCS DIRECTORS
MEET IN SAVANNAH

SAVANNAH, Ga.,—An in-train
ing course for approximately
twenty-seven directors of USO
Clubs operated by the National
Catholic Community Service in
the southeastern area was held
at the Hotel De Soto, March 13-15.
The area conference was con
ducted by Miss Carlotte Frod, ol
the national office of the NCCS,
with a group of NCCS officials
participating in the instruction
program. Among these were
Miss Anne Sarachon Hooley, as
sistant executive director of the
Women’s Division; Miss Mary
Clancy, regional supervisor of the
Women’s Division; Frank Mc-
Galven and J. Francis Kelly, of
the regional office of the Men’s
Division, and Miss Mary Louise
McTartlin, Miss Ford’s assistant.

SPONSORS DANCE
The dance given at the USO-
NCCS Club on March 22 was spon
sored by the Credit Women’s
Breakfast Club, with Miss Elise
lller as chairman, and Misses
Helen Exparis, Gloria Oetgen, Ma
rie Waters and Catherine Barrett
as hostesses. Miss Newana King
and Miss Virginia Thorpe pre
sided at the punch bowl, and Miss
Cynthia Hurst and Miss Clyo
Clarke were in charge of registra
tion- Music for the dancing was
furnisiied by a Coast Guard band.

Members of the Girl Scout
organizations in Savannah were
guests of the USO-NCCS at a
tea in celebration of the 32nd an
niversary of the founding of the
Girl Scouts. Mrs. Frances New-
some, violinist, with her sister,
Miss Janice Rise, as accompanist,
presented a musical program, and
a chorus from Troop Eight, under
the direction of Mrs. William
Myers, sang several selections
Music tor dancing was furnished
by a Coast Guard orchestra.

SAVANNAH, Ga.— Judge John
Rourke, Jr., granted a petition in
the Superior Court of Chatham
County, of the Missionary Francis
can Sisters of the Immaculate Con
ception, a corporation, for the re
newal of their charter as a corpora
tion for a period of 35 years. The
original charter, granted in 1924,
would expire in April.
The petition seeking the re
newal of the charter was signed by
Sister Mary Celestine, Superior of
the Order in the Diocese of Sa-
vannah-Atlanta, and was present
ed by John M. Brennan, local at
torney.
