Opera Stars
at St. William*s,
St. Simon*s Island
BRUNSWICK, Ga. —Inspiring
music was heard by the members
of the congregation which attend
ed the Mass celebrated on Easter
Sunday at St. Williams’ Chapel,
on St. Simon’s Island, by the Rev.
Leo Ziebarth, S. M.
Giovanni Martinelli, distinguish
ed star of the Metropolitan Opera
Company, sang the “Agnus Dei,”
while Miss Collette d’Arville, cele
brated French mezzo-soprano,
sang “Ave Maria” as an offertory
selection. “Panis Angelicus” was
sung as a duet at the Communion.
Mrs. George Boll of Sea Is
land, a member of St. William’s
parish, has sent air-mail letters to
Thomas Powell and Ted Peterson
and other members of the parish
serving overseas with the armed
forces, describing the Easter Mass
at the little chapel on the island.
SEWING COMMITTEE FORMED
BY USO-NCCS IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Mrs. Hugh
Helmly, Sr., chairman of the “Sew
for Soldiers” committee, sponsored
by the Women’s Division of the
USO-NCCS, has announced that
her committee for May will in
clude Mrs. Thomas F. McGinn,
Mrs. John Lyttjen, Mrs. Mar
guerite Murphy and Mrs. Arthur
J. Roshach.
The volunteers go every Friday
in an army truck to the service
club at Hunter Field, where they
attach chevrons and buttons and
do mending for the men, and
where they have completed more
than three hundred pairs of cur
tains from materials furnished by
the service club.

Inaugurate “Fatima Rosary Campaign”
In a ceremony marking the inauguration of the “Fatima Rosary
Campaign” to intensify devotion to the Blessed Virgin under that
title, Archbishop Francis J. Spellman, of New York, is pictured with
an oil painting of “Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima,” which he un
veiled in the Hotel Commodore, New York. The speaker on that
occasion was Monsignor Fulton J. Sheen of the Catholic University

SAVANNAH, Ga—An exampli-
i'ication of the fourth degree by
Savannah Council, No. 631,
Knights of Columbus, was held on
April 16 at the Armstrong Junior
College Auditorium. About one
hundred candidates were in the
class, which was named the Bishop
O’Hara Class in honor of the Most
Rev. Gerald P. O’Hara, Bishop of
Savannah.
The ceremonial was followed by
a banquet at the Hotel DeSoto at
which M. C. McCarthy, grand
knight of Savannah Council, acted
as toastmaster. Speakers includ
ed Bishop O’Hara, Lieut. Col.
James F. Glass, Arlington, Va., and
Andrtw J. Ryan, Jr., assistant so
licitor general of Chatham County.
Candidates from Atlanta, Au
gusta, Brunswick, Ga., Charleston,
S. C., Hamlet and Fayetteville, N.
C., Elizabeth, N. J., Glastonbury,
Conn., Connersville, Ind., and Sa
vannah were initiated into the
fourth degree.
William T. Walsh, Master of the
De Soto Province, which includes
Georgia and the Carolinas, con
ferred the degrees, assisted by the
Rev. Philip Hasson, S. M., of
Brunswick, State Chaplain of the
K. of C.; William Manucy, of St.
Augustine; State Deputy Thomas
Canty, of Savannah; Grand Knight
M. C. McCarthy, Savannah; James
B. Clarke, Jacksonville, and John
M. Brennan, Savannah, with C. J.
Desposito, as marshal, and J. A.
Kearney and T. J. Corcoran as his

ing this month the Missionary Ser
vants of the Most Holy Trinity will
assume charge of the parish of
Holy Name Church, Vanceboro, N.
C.
The Missionary Servants of the
Most Holy Trinity belong to an Or
der that was founded in 1929, by
the Rev. Thomas Augustin Judge,
M. S. SS. T., at Holy Trinity, Ala
bama, where the novitiate and
Motlierhouse of the Order is lo
cated.
Members of the Order are de
voted to missionary work, princi
pally in the South, and are to be
found in the Archdioceses of Balti
more and Newark, the Dioceses of
Cleveland, Mobile and Patterson,
and in Puerto Rico.
