Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D., J. U. D., celebrated a Sol emn Pontifical Mass at the Cathe- ral of Christ the King in Atlanta, on April 10. Tile sermon was delivered by the Most Rev. Emmet M. Walsh, D. D., Bishop of Charleston, and present in the sanctuary were the Most Rev. William' L. Adrian, D. D. Bishop of Nashville; the Most Rev. -Arthur L. Fletcher, D. D., Auxiliary Bishop of Little Rock; the Right Rev. M. Frederic Dunne, O. C. S. O., Abbot of the Abbey of our Lady of Gethsemani, Trap- pist, Ky., and the Right Rev. Boni face Seng, O. S. B., Abbot of St. Bernard Abbey, Cullman, Ala. Officers of the Mass were the Very Rev. Edward Dodwell, J. C. D., Savannah, assistant priest; the Very Rev. Edward P. McGrath, S. K. of C. Supreme Directors Hold Meeting in Atlanta (Special to The Bulletin) ATLANTA, Ga.—The Supreme Council of the Knights of Colum bus, headed by Supreme Knight Francis P. Matthews, of Omaha, held its spi'ing quarterly meet ing in Atlanta. April 13-14, at the Ansley Hotel. Others officers of the Supreme Council who were in attendance were: Supreme Chaplain, the Right Rev. Msgr. Leo M. Finn, of Bridgeport, Conn.; Deputy Su preme Knight John E. Swift, Bos ton; Supreme Secretary Joseph F. Lamb, New Haven; Supreme Treasurer, Leo M. Flynn, Chi cago; Supreme Advocate Luke E. Hart, St. Louis, and the following members of the Board of Direc tors: William J. Guste, New Or leans: Francis Fauteux, Montreal; Ray T. Miller, Cleveland; Michael F. Members of the Supreme Coun cil met the funeral train of President Roosevelt as it stopped at the Terminal Station in At lanta en route from Warm Springs to Washington, and adopted the following resolution on the death of the nation’s Chief Executive: BE IT RESOLVED. That the Supreme Board of Directors of the Knights of Columbus at its regular quarterly meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, April 14, 1945, voicing the sentiments of the five hundred thousand mem bers of the Order in the United States, Canada, New Foundland, Panama, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Philippine Island, records its expression of pro found sorrow in the death of President Franklin Delano Roose velt. Occurring at an hour when with anxious ear it awaited the announcement of his successful accomplishments in the field of battle, the world was shocked to have that hour filled with the mournful news that the inscrut able will of the Creator had call ed humanity’s benefactor to his just reward. We join in griff the millions whose affection to him was pas sionately borne, and we kneel in humble prayer for the repose of his soul and for the continued welfare of the great republic which he so nobly led. BE IT RESOLVED, That this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting, and that a copy thereof be forwarded to his bereaved family, and to His Excellency Honorable Harry S. Governor Arnall Welcomes K. of C. Officials to Georgia (Special to The Bulletin) ATLANTA, Ga.—Honorable Ellis Arnall, Governor of Georgia, ex-* pressed his regret at not being able to extend a personal welcome to the Supreme Board of the Knights of Columbus, which held its quarterly meeting here April 13-14, in a letter addressed to Henry C. Taylor, grand knight of the Atlanta Council of the K. of C. Governor Arnall’s letter, which was read at one of the sessions of the Supreme Council, was as fol lows: “I will greatly aprpeciate it if you will express to Supreme Knight Francis P. Matthews and the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus my regrets that I am not personally able to be At Invitation of Cardinal Dougherty, Bishop O’Hara to Celebrate Jubilee Mass at Cathedral in Philadelphia SAVANNAH, Ga. — At the in vitation of His Eminence Dennis Cardinal Dougherty, Archbishop of Philadelphia, His Excellency the Most Reverend Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D„ J. U. D., Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta, will celebrate a Solemn Pontifical Mass Coram Cardinali, at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, in Phila delphia, on May 3. Bishop O’Hara, who is cele brating this month the twenty- fifth' anniversary of his ordina tion to the priesthood, served for present to welcome them to Geor gia. “Due to a long standing engage ment out of the City, I am denied the pleasure of meeting these esteemed gentlemen and convey ing to them my high regards and best wishes. “We are delighted to have them in Georgia and I hope their stay will be pleasant and serviceable." several years as secretary to Cardinal Dougherty, and was Auxiliary Bishop of Philadel phia at the time of his appoint ment as Bishop of Savannah in 1935, and the Mass in Philadel phia will be an extension of the observance of his Silver Sacerdo tal Jubilee. The sermon at the Mass will be delivered by the Right Rev, Monsignor John J. Bonner, D. D. LL.D., Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadel phia, who like Bishop O’Hara, was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows parish in Philadelphia before entering the seminary. Monsignor Bonner delivered the sermon when Bishop O’Hara was consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia in 1929. Following the Mass, Bishop O’Hara will be honored at a testi monial banquet which will be given at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel.
