Awarded Air Medal BUY WAR BONDS, STAMPS SERGEANT DORR Sergeant Victor Dorr, son of Mrs. Caroline O'Gorman Dorr, of Blackville , S. C., and the late Vic tor G. Dorr, of Augusta, has been awarded the Air Medal for meri torious achievement as a gunner on a B-29 bomber on missions over Japan. PURPLE HEART MEDAL AWARDED POSTHUMOUSLY TO LIEUTENANT DOUGHTY AUGUSTA, Ga.—A Purple Heart Medal has been awarded posthu mously to Lt. LeGarde S. Doughty, Jr., according to a message re ceived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeGarde Doughty, members of St. Mary’s-on-The-Hill parish here. In the early part of March, his parents also received an Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster, awarded Lt. Doughty for "sustained opera tional activity over enemy terri tory. The young Army Air Forces officer lost his life in February, 1944, in action over the Anzio beachhead, after completing Cl missions. MAY PROCESSION AT CHURCH IN WAYCR0SS (Special to The Bulletin) WAYCROSS, Ga.—Climaxing a year of Catechetical instruction the children of St. Joseph’s mission parish here took part in a May profession on the last Sunday of the month. Little Miss Mary Lenz had the privilege of placing the floral crown on the statue of the Blessed Virgin, and acts of consecration to the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph were recited by Gloria Fechtel and Kay O’Brien. The sermon was delivered by the Rev. John H. Hillmann, S. M., who also gave the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, which closed the services, Chaplain Paul-Golem- biewski, of the local Army Air Base, was present in the sanctuary. Those who took part in the pro cession were Mary Lenz, Gloria Fechtel, Kay O’Brien, Katherine Leijz, Barbara Sue James, Carole Fechtel, Nancy Sue Cunningham, Tommie Moore, Mickey Lenz, Sey mour Lenz, Bubba Fechtel, Billie Cunningham and Fred Crawford. The Rev. Paul V. Golembiewski, chaplain at the Waycross Army Air Base, was celebrant of the High Mass offered at St. Joseph’s Church on Mothers’ Day. Following the Mass, soldiers from the Air Base were guests of the Waycross Council of the Na tional Council of Catholic Wom en, at a breakfast served at the home of Mrs. T. Johnson Moore. The Rev. John H. Hillmann, S. M., acted as toastmaster, and the guest speaker was Lieut. Colonel Bernard A. Law. Other speakers were Mrs. Mary L. Friberg, who was chosen as “Catholic Mother of Waycross,’’ and Chaplain Golem biewski. Mrs. A. A. Fechtel, Mrs. T. John son Moore, Mrs. William Vogel, Mrs. Duane Allen, Mrs. S. II. Randle, Mrs. William McGarvey, Mrs. Robert Frey, Mrs. Stephen Cordell and Miss Catherine Fri berg acted as hostesses. Heads Newman Club at G. S. C. W * IHISb VIRGINIA SUTTON Miss Virginia Sutton, of Adel, has been elected president of the Newman Club at the Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, * succeeding Miss Margo Flahive, of Americus. Other new officers of Hie club are Miss Bee McCormack, Albany, vice-president; Miss Kate McLaren, Griffin, secretary-treas urer. Mrs. Lynwood Smith is facul ty advisor of the club, and the Rev. John D. Toomey, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church in Mil- ledgcville, is the spiritual director. JOHN T. RUCKER, of Augusta, Ga., who served for the past year as a technical sergeant with the Fifteenth Air Force in Italy, is home on a furlough. He had fifty missions to his credit as an engi neer gunner of a B-24, wears the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, a Presidential citation, and five Bronze Stars on his Euro pean theatre ribbon. He has two brothers, Pfc. James Rucker, U. S. Army, and Pvt. Robert J. RucIg^, U. S. M. C., both of whom ha^^ also seen service overseas.
