ELEVEN
General Craig, of Raleigh,
Awarded New Decorations
(Special to The Bulletin)
RALEIGH, N. C.—The French
"Legion of Honor,” grade of offi
cers, was recently awarded to Maj.
Gen. Louis A. Craig, a member of
the parish of the Cathedral of the
Sacred Heart in Raleigh. The pre
sentation was made by Gen. Koeltz
of the French Army at a ccremo
which was held, according to the
original report, “Somewhere in
tlic European Theatre of Opera- j
lions.” Gen. Craig had previously
been awarded the French Croix
de Guerre.
The War Department has an
nounced that Gen. Craig has also
been awarded the Distinguished
Service Medal, following a citation
which read: "While commanding
(lie Ninth Infantry Division in Bel
gium and Germany from Septem
ber 5 to December 15, 1944, he di
rected his troops in conspiciously
successfully operations. Upon
reaching the Meuse river, he skill
fully planned the capitulation of
enemy-held Dinant. after two days
of heavy fighting. Pressing the
advantage, he pursued the defeat
ed Germans. His division breach
ed the intricate fortifications of
the Siegfried Line in three days’
combat and with extraordinary
light losses, in contrast to heavy
casualties for the enemy.
"While one of his units held
these important gains, he direct
ed his remaining elements in de
stroying fixed fortifications in the
Hurigan Forest. Subsequently, his
division swept the Germans from
the Luchcm-Langerwche sector
and drove them across the lloel
river. His analysis of enemy pur
poses and capabilities, his deci
sive exploitation * of temporary
weakness and his skillful use of
his forces against formidable ob
stacles provided the inspired bold
leadership which was so greatly
responsible for carrying his divi
sion through a series of successes
of vast consequence to the Allied
cause.”
Among the decorations received
by Gen. Craig in the first World
War were the Belgian Croix de
Guerre, the Order of Leopold and
the British Distinguished Service
Order, in addition to awards of
the French Legion of Honor and
French Croix de Guerre.

In the Hour of Triumph
Let us not forget those whose part in
bringing victory was a major one.
The one way we can help most to care
for our wounded .... to bring our veterans
home .... to give them a fresh start in the
country they fought for ... to care for the
families of those who died before the victory
was won ... is simply this;
BUY ALL THE VICTORY BONDS YOU CAN
KEEP ALL THE VICTORY BONDS YOU BUY
