ST. LEO’S CHURCH AND RECTORY, WINSTON SALEM — Formerly a charge of the Benedictine
Fathers, St. Leo’s Church, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was dedicated in honor of St. Leo, Pope of
the fourth century, who was the patron of the la te Bishop Leo Haid, Abbot of Belmont, who was in
strumental in its construction. It is one of the most inspiringly beautiful religious edifices in North Caro
lina. St. Leo’s is now served by priests of the Diocese of Raleigh, with the Rev. Michael J. Begley as
pastor. ,

ASHEVILLE, N. C.—The Altar
Society of St. Joan of Arc Church
held its annual Hallowe’en party
and bazaar at the parish school on
the evening of October 25, with
Mrs. J. F. Courtney serving as
general chairman of the commit
tee in charge.
Mrs. Frank Ewers was in charge
of the cafeteria, with Mrs'. N. P.
Mulvaney assisting. Mrs. I. W.
Warren was chairman of the coffee
booth committee, with Mrs. Clare
Johnson in charge of the cake
booth. Mrs. J. N. McCabe presided
at the fancy work booth, with Mrs.
F. A. Wyant assisting.
The sandwich booth was under
the direction of Mrs. Frank Mul
vaney, with Mrs. B. A. Barrossc as
her assistant; Mrs. William Piem-
mons presided at the punch table;
Mrs. J. W. Cain was in charge of
the fish pond; Mrs. Frank Norris
was at the candy booth and the
“hot dog” stand was operated by
Mrs. Porter Wamslcy and Mrs.
Charles Craven. Amusements were
directed by N. P. Mulvaney.

ADDRESSES STUDENTS AT
CONVERSE COLLEGE
SPARTANBURG, S. C.—On the
evening of November 7, the Rev.
Charles J. Baum, pastor of the
Church of St. Paul the Apostle,
delivered an address in the chapel
of Converse College to a large
gathering of students, speaking on
“Fundametal Doctrines of the
Catholic Church.” Converse is a
non-denominational senior college
for women.
