Pfaff, Jr., financial secretary of
Bishop Gross Council, No. 1019,
is completing plans, with State
Deputy John J. McCreary, of Ma
con, for the exemplification of the
first, second and third degrees in
the near future.
A holder of the Southeastern
States’ record for thirty years in
high percentage of insurance
membership, Bishop Gross Coun
cil was the first council in Geor
gia to attain its 1946 insurance in
crease quota. Mr. Pfaff is chair
man of the council’s insurance,
committee, and also a member of
that committee of the Georgia
State Council,' K. of C.

vannah Council is making plans to
confer the first, second and third
degrees on the last Sunday in
March.
A number of the members of
the class to be initialed are former
students at Benedictine Military
School so the class will be known
as the “Benedictine Class.”

New Year message on the Savan
nah Catholic Radio Program 1
broadcast over Station WTOC on
January 6.
The local Catholic radio pro
gram, now in its ninth year, is
sponsored by the K. of C.
Speaking on the program on
Sunday, January 13, was the Rev
Walter Donovan, and on January
20. Chaplain James H. Grady.
Serving in the Navy
EMMET HOGAN
Formerly in charge of the mail
ing department of The Bulletin,
George Emmet Hogan is serving
with the United States Navy in the
Pacific area. A native of Augusta,
Mr. Hogan is the son of George
Hogan and the late Mrs. Margie
Lenz Hogan. After graduating
from the Boys’ Catholic High
School in Augusta, in 1945, he
entered the Navy and has now
been assigned to active service af
ter completing training as a radar
operator.

MEETS IN BROOKLET
BROOKLET, Ga.—The Rev.
Henry J. Burke, assistant pastor
of St. Matthew’s Mission in States
boro, delivered an address on
"Woman’s Task in the World of
Today” at the meeting of the
Catholic Mission Council held
here on January 13 at the home
of Mrs. John DeNitto.
The next meeting of the Mis
sion Council of the N. C. C. W.
will be held on February 21 at
the home of Mrs. T. Jesselink, in
Rocky Ford.

INSURANCE MEMBERSHIP

MACON, Ga.—Georgia State
Council, Knights of Columbus, at
tained 165 per cent of the insur
ance quota assigned to it for the
calendar year 1945, it has been
learned by John J. McCreary,
chairman of the insurance commit
tee of the State Council. Official
figures were tabulated and re
ported as of December 31, 1945,
on the volume of insurance writ
ten.
Macon Council, of which
Charles C. McCarren is grand
knight, and John F. McBearty, in
surance committee chairman, dou
bled its numerical quota of insur
ance members. Bishop Gross
Council, in Columbus, of which
Richard Fleming is grand knight,
and William W. Pfaff, Jr., insur
ance committee chairman, attain
ed its quota of insurance members
for 1946 in September of 1945.
Close to completing their 1946
insurance membership quotas are
Savannah Council, Atlanta Coun
cil and Patrick Walsh Council in
Augusta.
The insurance committee of the
State Council has scheduled a
program for the meeting of Sa
vannah Council, too be held on
January 23, and Mr. McCreary
predicts that all of the councils
of the K. of C. in this state will
meet insurance quota require
ments prior to the annual con
vention to be held in Augusta in
May.
PAT RICE, AUGUSTA NAMED

AUGUSTA, Ga.—Pat H. Rice,
business manager of The Augusta
Chronicle, was named a member
of the board of directors of the
Newspaper Advertising Executive
Association at its recent conven
tion in Chicago.
Mr. Rice, who is a member of
St. Mary-on-The-Hill parish, is
the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Carson
Rice and the late Capt. P. H. Rice,
K. S. G.
