principal of the Jesuit High
School in New Orleans, has been
appointed president of Spring Hill
College.
At thirty-eight, the youngest
president in the 116-year history of
Spring Hill College, Father Don
nelly, who was born in Augusta,
Ga., in 1908, succeeds Father W.
D. O'Leary, S. J„ M. D„ who is
also a native of Augusta.
Father Donnelly is the son of
Mrs. Patrick Donnelly, of Augusta,
and the late Mr. Donnelly. He at
tended the Sacred Heart parochial
school and the Richmond Academy
in Augusta; Loyola University, and
St. Mary’s Seminary, in Kansas,
receiving degrees of Master of
Arts and Licentiate in Theology.

Medical Mission Board
Appeals for Aid for
War-Ravaged Hospitals
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Father Ed
ward P. Garesche, S. J., of New
York City. Director of the Catholic
Medical Mission Board, has re
quested that The Bulletin publish
a very urgent appeal which he
has received from Bishop G. J.
Vestcrs, M. S. C., of Mary's Mount,
Australia.
Bishop Vesters’ letter reads:
“Today. 1 transmit to you an S.O.S.
from the Batavia Mission Commit
tee. This official report calls the
“shortage of medicines a veritable
catastrophe. An enormous per
centage of tlie population of mil
lions are suffering from malaria
(no quinine or atabrine), whereas
the eases of Framboesia Tropicalis
and tropical ulcers are very
numerous. Dysentery is vastly
rampant. Deaths are extremely
frequent. The Government distri
bution is totally inadequate and
help from private quarters is im
plored. Please, dear Father, can
you help with the quinine or ata-
brine and other drugs as N. A. B.
injections for yaws, and tropical
ulcers, etc., also dressings? Any
quanity are welcome- since the
area is immense. The missionaries
and faithful do not know where to
look for help, since Holland itself
is just rising from the ruins of
war. and five years’ devastation by
the Nazis."
Bishop Vester added that any
thing to him for these poor suf
ferers can be kept in bond in Au
stralia until kent to the Dutch East
Indies and in this way will avoid
paying customs duties. The many
hospitals and dispensaries in the
Dutch East Indies have either been
destroyed or are so destitute that
the cannot take care of their
patients.
Father Garesche asks that any
thing the readers of The Bulletin
can do to send funds to buy sup
plies for these medical missions
will be very welcome. Donations
may be sent to the Catholic Medi
cal Mission Board. 10 West 17th
