Annual Meeting of St.
Vincent de Paul Society

Spalding, president of the Partic
ular Council of the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul in Atlanta, was
among the speakers on the pro
gram of the annual meeting of the
Superior Council of"- the United
States, Society of St. Vincent de
Paul, held at 3t. Mary’s College,
Notre Dame, Holy Cross, Indiana,
this week.
Mr. Spalding, who has been most
active in charitable work of the
St. Vincent de Paul Society in
Atlanta, selected as the subject of
his address, "The Superior Coun
cil Looks Ahead."
Among other speakers on the
program were Monsginor Charles
Pekala, director of Caritas, in Po
land: Frank Bruce, president of
the Metropolitan Council, Milwau
kee; Father John J. Donovan, di
rector of Family Division, Catholic

ST. MARY’S HOME, SAVANNAH—Pictured above is the present St, Mary’s Home, attractively lo
cated on Victory Drive in SavanSfth, Georgia. The new home for orphan girls of the Diocese of Savannah-
Atlanta was dedicated by Bishop Gerald P. O’Hara in 1938. The imposing building, one of the finest in
stitutions of its kind in the South, was designed by Cletus W. Bergen, Savannah architect, and was erect
ed at a cost of approximately $450,000. Operated under the patronage of the Female Orphan Benevolent
Society,*St. Mary’s Home is conducted by the Sisters of Mercy, who last year completed a century of
service in Georgia.
