Retreat for Women
Held at Mt. de Sales
Academy in Macon

MACON, Va.—'The twenty-fifth
annual Retreat for women, held
under the auspices of the Catho
lic Laymen’s Association of Geor
gia and the Savannah-Atlanta
Diocesan Council of the National
Council of Catholic Women was
conducted at Mount de Sales
Academy, with Father Joseph C.
Mulhern, S. J., as Retreatmaster,
At the supper preceding the
first exercise of the Retreat, Sis
ter Mary Alma, R. S. N., superior
of Mount de Sales, presented Mrs-
R. W. Hatcher, of Milledgeville,
as the only retreatant who ha<J
registered for all twenty-five of
the Retreats for women held at
Mount de Sales.
On the closing day of the Re
treat, Mass was offered for the
repose of the soul of Miss Mary
Brosnan, of Albany, who had at
tended twenty-three of the twen
ty-four Retreats that had been
held at Mount de Sales in her life
time.
Miss Julia McCreary, of Macon,
chairman of the Women’s Retreat
section of the Laymen’s Associa
tion, presided at the meeting of
the retreatant* held at the clos
ing of the exercises. It was pro
posed at the meeting that in the
future the Mass on the closing
dhy of the Retreat would be offer
ed for the repose of deceased re-
treatants and that a section of the
registry book be set aside for
the recording of the names of for
mer retreatants who were de
ceased.

Awarded Legion of Merit
AUGUSTA. Ga. — Word has
been received here that Lieuten
ant Colonel Joseph O’Connor,
formerly of Augusta, recently re
ceived the following letter from
(he Adjutant General’s Office of
the War Department:
"Bv direction of the President,
the Legion of Merit ha? been
awarded you by the Commanding
General, United States Army
Forces, Pacific. The Legion of
Merit, together with a eopy of
the citation and General Orders
announcing this award, will be
forwarded to the .Commanding
General, Seventh Army, Atlanta.
Georgia, who will select an officer
to make presentation to you with
appropriate ceremony. The of
ficer so selected will communi
cate with you concerning your
wishes in the matter. This was
made by order of the Secretary
of War."
Colonel O'Connor, who is a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J.
O’Connor , of Augusta, served
with distinction in Australia, the
Philippines and other areas in the
Pacific. He was recently given
his discharge and is now connect
ed with Hie Clinchfietd Railroad
in Detroit. 1
