The bride was attended by Miss
Dorothy McAlister, as maid of

flower girl. The bridegroom had
his father, Thomas W. Bennett, as
his best man, and the usher-

Mary Gallaher, daughter of Ed
ward Joseph Gallaher and the

February 1 in the rectory of St.

Mrs. Fred Muller, of Charlotte,
was her sister’s matron of honor,
and Dan Gallaher, brother of the
bride, w'as the groom's best man.
Following the ceremony, Mrs. Al
bert Rice and Mrs. Joseph Slat
tery, cousins of the bride, were
hostesses to the wedding party and
members of the family at a re
ception at the Rice home on Lom
bardy Court.

in the chapel of the Oliver General

The bride was attended by the
groom’s sister, Mrs. William A.
Faughnan, as matron of honor, and
Mr. Faughnan was the groom’s best
man.
Mrs. Boyle is an Army dietV
cian and is stationed at Oliver
General Hospital. Mr. Boyle, a
graduate of Belmont Abbey Col
lege, served three years in the
Army Air Forces.

Mrs. Castiglione was formerly
a lieutenant in the Army Nurse
Corps and Mr. Castiglione was a
lieutenant in the famous Fourth
Infantry Division which fought in
the European theatre of the war.

RELIGIOUS EMPHASIS WEEK
AT CITADEL, CHARLESTON
CHARLESTON, S. C.—The an
nual Religious Emphasis Week
at The Citadel was observed dur
ing the period from February 9 to
13, under the auspices of the
Y. M. C. A.
Parallel observance was held by
the Catholic cadets and veteran
students under the sponsorship of
the Newman Club,- JVTonsignor
Joseph L. O’Brien, S. T. D., LL.D.,
pastor of St. Patrick's Church,
conducting a Retreat.

Active Group at
Winthrop College

ROCK HILL, S. C.—The New
man Club of Winthrop College in
vited Miss Carol Jackson, co-editor
of “Integrity”, the new magazine
published in New York, to be the
leader of a discussion club program
during Religious Emphasis Week
at Winthrop, February 16-20.
Members of the club receive
Holy Communion at the 8:30
o’clock Mass celebrated in the
chapel at the Oratory of St. Philip
Neri each Sunday morning, and
then prepare and serve their own
breakfasts at the Oratory. Many
of the members of the club, attend
Mass daily at the Oratory.
Throughout the school year a
number of social events are spon
sored by the club, among them
entertainments at Hallowe’en,
Thanksgiving and Christmas, when
a number of non-Catholic students
at the college were special guests.
A Day of Recollection was held
for the club on December 15( and
a week-end Retreat is being plan
ned in the spring. Regular study
club sessions are held ea*h Wed
nesday afternoon, and each Friday
evening, and the monthly meet
ings are held on the first Sunday
each month and are followed by
an enjoyable social hour.

U. T. C. in Atlanta

ATLANTA. Ga. — Father Jos
eph R. Smith, pastor of the Im-:
maculate Conception Church, was
invited to speak at a recent meet
ing of Atlanta Council No. 18, of
the United Commercial Travelers,
and told the members and a num
ber of guests of the work that is
being done by the Sisters, Ser
vants for the Relief of Incurable
Cancer at Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Free Cancer Home in At
lanta.
Atlanta Council, U. C. T., dur- ’
ing the war years, participated in
furnishing tools and leather mod
els to the Rehabilitation Depart
ment of Lawsop General Hospital
here, and wishing to continue the
sponsorship of worthy charitable
enterprises, has voted to adopt
the Cancer Home as one of them.
The United Commercial Travelers
in Canada have aided- in the
campaign for the eradication of
cancer for many years, and the
local unit will be happy to assist
the Sisters at the Cancer Home
who are caring for victims of the
dreaded disease.
The Grand Council of the U. C.
T. will hold its convention in At
lanta in May, and at that time
an effort will be made to have all
councils in the South participate
in the work of aiding the Cancer
Home.
The United Commercial Trav
elers, an organization of sales
men, business and professional
men, is the largest organization of
its kind in this country. It is spon
soring the cause of ths small bus
iness man and "white collar"
workers, and in addition to its
fraternal features offers its mem
bers a group plan of accident in
surance and a fraternal benefit
fund for widows and orphans of
its members.
DR. JOHN C. Y. WU, newly ap
pointed Chinese Minister to the
Vatican, has arrived in Rome to
assume his post. Dr. Wu was ac
companied by his wife and thir
teen children.
