Mother Vicar of Sacred Heart Nuns,
on World-Circling Inspection Tour,
Visits St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens
ST. MARY’S HOSPITAL. ATHENS, GEORGIA—Pictured above, as viewed from Milledge Avenue,
is St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia, which was acquired by the Diocese of Savannah-Atlanta in
1938, and which has been conducted since that time by the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart
of Jesus. So rapid has been the progress of the hospital, and so constantly increasing tlie demands
for its services, that a four-story wing was added to the rear of the building in 1941, and a new four-story
addition is now being completed. Practically the entire block bounded by Milledge, Meigs, Hancock and
Harris streets, in an attractive residential area of Athens, is now hospital property. In addition to the
original hospital building and its additions, a convent for the Sisters, three nurses’ homes, a doctor’s of
fice building, and a residence that is at present being rented, are located on the property.
