Governor of ’Georgia has named
j a praying school colonel to his
staff.
He is Dean Kairmindo de Ovies,
who will be Governor M. E.
Thompson’s "spiritual aide” with
tlie rank of Colonel and Assistant
Aaide-de-Camp.

nary. has been appointed rector
of Belmont Abbey College.
As rector of the college at Bel
mont. Father Bernard will suc
ceed Father Cuthbert E. Allen. O.
S. B.. who will be dean of men at
the college. Father Anthony Ca
hill, O. S. B., and Father Dennis
Byrne, O. S. B., members of the
college faculty, will be assistant
deans.

Father Bernard, who lias been
rector of the Abbey Seminary
since 1943. is a native of Frig. Fa.
He attended Belmont Abbey Col
lege and St. Benedict's College
Atchison. Kansas. After his ordi
nation. in 1937, Fattier Bernard
did post-graduate work at the
Catholic University of America,
where he earned a Licentiate in
| Theology in 1939. and a Doctor
ate in 1941. While at Catholic,
University he was assistant dean
of men, and before being named
dean at Belmont Abbey College,
he taught theology in the semi
nary and Latin, philosophy and
mathematics in the college.
Again this year the capacity of
Belmont Abbey College is being
taxed to accommodate a record
number of students, more than
300 applications for enrollment
having already been received.
FATHER MARTIN LEAVES
BELMONT FOR RICHMOND
Father Martin Hayes. O. S. B.,
who has been Procurator of Bel
mont Abbey, has been assigned
to the faculty of the Benedictine
FATHER BERNARD
High School in Richmond, Va.
Father Andrew Doris, O. S. B.,
will succeed Father Martin as
Procurator at the Abbey.
In addition to serving as Pro
curator, Father Martin was also
in charge of the Colored parish I
in Belmont. The Colored Catho
lics in Belmont have no separate
church, but they have their own
Mass each Sunday at the Abbey
Cathedral, at which their own
choir sings arid their own altar
boys serve in the sanctuary.
Father Gabriel Stupasky, O. S.
B., succeeds Father Martin as
r .4' of the Colored parish in
Belmont.
