Dies in Savannah
Savannah, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Thomas Joseph Lynch,
who died August IX, at the home
of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Roe
Nugent, were held from the Ca
thedral of St. John the Baptist.
Mr. Lynch, who was born Octo
ber 31, 1871, the son of the late
John Lynch and Mrs. Anne Durkin
Lynch, was reared and educated
in Savannah. As a young man he
moved to Masachusetts to live, re
turning here in 1938.
He is survived by his daughter.
Mrs. Peter Hoe Nugent; two
granddaughters, two grandsons,
and two great-grandehilren.
ROBERT J. WARD, SR.
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Funeral
services for Robert James Ward.
Sr., who died August 13, were
held at the. Cathedral of St. John
the Baptist, Father George Daly
officiating.
Mr. Ward, an engineer with the
Savannah Fire Department, was a
fourth degree member of the
Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Marie McClellan Ward; four sons,
Robert J. Ward, Jr., Roy Thomas
Ward, Earl Patrick Ward and
James Hayward Ward; two broth
ers, Clifford A. Ward, Augusta,
and James F. Ward, Tampa, and a
sister, Mrs. John Jackson.
SON OF CONFEDERATE HERO
DIES IN LOUISIANA
NEW ORLEANS— (NC) —
Requiem Mass for John Bell Hood,
Jr., a convert and eldest son of
the Cjnfederate Army General,
was offered at Immaculate Con
ception Church here.
Mr. Hood, who resided at Mata
gorda Plantation near Jonestown,
was a member of St. Elizabeth's
parish in Clarksdale. During the
Spanish-American far, he was a
member of “Teddy” Roosevelt's
Rough Riders and took part in
the Battle of San Juan Hilt.

DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga. — James J.
Murphy, for a number of years
connected with the city Park and
Tree commission, died on July 30.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Anne Downing Murphy;
five daughters, Mrs. Frank F.
Green, Mrs. Roger R. Lowery, Miss
Julia Murphy, Miss Mary Murphy
and Miss Frances Murphy; a sister,
Mrs. Thomas J. Kearney, and a
brother, Phillip S. Murphy, all of
Savannah.

vices for Mrs. Mary Ellen Kenne
dy Bowman, widow of William A.
Bowman, who died August 7, were
held from St. Anne’s Church.
Mrs. Bowman was born 84 years
ago at Ross Hill Plantation, Sum
ter County, a daughter of William
Green Kennedy and Mrs. Mary
Ellen Dick Kennedy.
She is survived by two daugh
ters, Mrs. Henry Deas, of Charles
ton, and Mrs. D. J. Cain, or Mau
ler; four sons, P. K. Bowman. W.
A. Bowman and A. K. Bowman, ah
of Sumter, and R. P. Bowman, of
Los Angeles, and a bro'her Paul
Kennedy, of Spartanburg.

services for Mrs. Margaret W.
Albcnesius, wife of Paul B. Al-
benesius, who died August 17,
were held from the Sacred Heart
Church, Father Henry F. Wolfe
officiating.
A native of New York City. Mrs.
Albcnesius had lived in Charleston
for more than thirty years. Sur
viving, besides her husband, are
two sisters.
