ed a full program of activity for
the fall and winter months, after
holding an election of officers.
Helen Weimer, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. O. N. Weimer, lias been
elected president, to succeed Wil
liam Bultman. Other officers are
Noddy McLaughlin, who succeeds
Dorothy Weimer, as vice presi

Church in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga.—At Lithurgical
Week services hold at St. Mary’s-
on-The-Hill Church in Augusta,
November 14-21, Father Joseph A.
Curtin, O. M. I., of the Oblate
Fathers’ Mission Band, from Doug
las, delivered a series of sermons
and instructions on the meaning
and the manner of the Mass.
The boys’ choir sang at the High
Masses which were offered each
morning during the week, at the
evening services, and at the Sol
emn High Mass, which was cele
brated to close the services on
Sunday, November 21, by'’Mon
signor James .T. Grady, pastor of
St. Mary's, with Father Arthur
Weltzer, assistant pastor, as dea
con, and Father Curtin, sub
deacon.

ciety of the parish and members
of Pa*rick Walsh Council, Knights
of Columbus, received Holy Com
munion in a body at the Mass,
following which there was a break
fast at the Richmond Hotel with
Monsignor Grady and Father Cur
tin as the sneakers.
SCHOOL IN SAVANNAH
SPONSORS CARNIVAL
SAVANNAH, Ga.—-The Mother’s
Club of the Sacred Heart School
sponsored successful Hallowe'en
carnival on the school grounds and
the proceeds, about $1,100.00 will
be used for the new school cafteria.
The children enjoyed such at
tractions as motion pictures, pony
rides, a cake walk and delicious
refreshments. Dinner was served
for the young people and the
grown-ups,
The regular monthly meeting of
the Mothers’ Club was held on
November 3, with the fifth gede
winning the attendance prize. The
breakfast on the first Friday of the
mouth was served by mothers of
pupils in the third and fourth
grade:.

The aims of the club are to pro
vide religious instruction, social
and recreational entertainment for
the members. The club recently
sponsored a rummage sale to raise
funds for charitable purposes.

Sulpician Provincial
WASHINGTON. — (NC) — The
Very Rev. Lloyd Paul McDonald,
rector of the Theological College
America since 1944, has been
named provincial of the Sulpican
Fathers of the United States, ac
cording to word received here
from Sulpician headquarters in
France.
Father McDonald, 52, is a na
tive of Seward, ill. He attended
St. Joseph's Academy and Loras
College, Dubuque, and the Sul
pician Seminary here, graduating
in 1921. lie taught at St. Charles
Seminary, Catonsville, Md., and
St. Mary's Academy, Baltimore.
He also served as president of the
Basselin Foundation, of Catholic
University, which supplies schol
arships for students for the priest
hood, from 1929 to 1932.
CHILDREN’S FLOWER SHOW
PUPILS OF AUGUSTA SCHOOL
AUGUSTA, Ga.—The second an
nual children's flower show at
Mount St. Joseph Academy was
held on November 12 under the
auspices of the Wayside Garden
Club, with more than two hundred
entries submitted by pupils of the
rchool.
Mrs. Marion Syms and Mrs
George N. Kiser, of the Cran
ford Flower Club, acted as judges,
and awarded first prizes as fol
lows:

anna Seyden has been elected
president of the recently organized
Auxiliary of Savannah Council,
Knights of Columbus. Other of

Purpose of the organization is
to assist in fostering (lie religi

Sacred Heart Sodality,
Savannah, Engaged in
Program of Activity

SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Sodality
of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart
Church, has engaged in an active
program this year under the cap
able leadership of Miss Anne
White, prefect.
The Sodality recently donated a
new Sodality banner to Father
Robert Brennan, O. S. B., pastor
which was used for the first time
at the Communion Sunday of- this
month. A study club has been
organized and meets each Monday
evening under the direction of
Father Timothy Flaherty, O. S.
B., assistant pastor of the Sacred
Heart Church. The present course
of study is on the altar and the
sanctuary.
Plans are being made lo en
tertain the guests of the Little
Sir.ters of the Poor during the
Christmas season, and other social
events are being scheduled.
Sister Loretta Joseph, C. S. J.,
is the moderator of the Sodality,
and Father Timothy is the spirit
ual Dinrector. Officers in addi
tion to Miss White are: Miss
Shirley Mason, vice prefect; Miss
Mary Ann Little, corresponding
secretary; Miss Kathleen Ryan,
secretary, and Miss Marjorie Mc
Laughlin, treasurer.

has been named by Pope Pius XII
as Titular Bishop of Mctilis and
Auxiliary to the Cardinal Arch
bishop of New York. His ap
pointment raises the number of
Auxiliary Bishops of New York

FUNERAL IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Mrs. Julia W. Beranc,
widow of the late James F. Beranc,
who died October 19 were held at
the Cathedral of St. John the
Baptist.
Mrs. Beranc is survived by
three sons, James F. Beranc, Jr.,
Edwin Beranc, and Joseph W.
Beranc; three daughters, Miss Re
gina Margaret Beranc, Miss Fran
ces Marie Beranc and Mrs. D. W.
Muller; three sisters, Mrs. Rilla
Bunger, Mrs. Emma Hampton and
Mrs. Mary Brown; a brother, Wil
lis Webb, of Green Cove Springs,
Fla.; a granddaughter, and sev
eral nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL IN MACON
MACON, Ga.—Funeral services
for Miss Biddie Cawley were held
at St. Joseph’s Church November
9, Father Robert T. Bryant, S. J„
officiating.
Miss Cawley was a lifelong resi
dent of Macon, the daughter of
Owen Cawley and Mrs. Bridget
Rowley Cawley. She is survived
by three nephews, George and
Henry Woodruff, Macon, William
Roberts of Miami; a niece, Mrs.
R. L. Schulley, Joliet, 111., and a
cousin, Mrs. Dan Coffee, Macon.
