Mrs. Janicula is the daughter of
Jesse R. Duncan, of Spartanburg,
and the late Mrs. Essie Bishop
Duncan. Mr. Janicula is the son of
Mrs. Alice L. Janicula, of New

of the marriage of Miss Frances
Tracey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Earle Thurman Tracey, of Nassau,
N. II., to Dr. James B’. Walsh, III,
son of Mrs. James F. Walsh, of
Milford, N. II., and the late Dr.
Walsh, which was solemnized on
May 28 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral,
Manchester. N. H.
The bridegroom’s mother was
formerly Miss Genevieve Powers,
of Savannah.

Closing Exercises at
St. Mary's, Greenville

GREENVILLE, S. C.—Eighteen
students were awarded certificates
for completion of the eighth grade
at St. Mary's School at closing ex
ercises held at St. Mary’s Church.
Cited for having the highest
averages in their individual classes
were Louise Brigham, eighth
grade; Shirley Dowling, seventh
grade; William Oakes, sixth grade;
Betsy Ann Barron, fifth grade, and
Frances Dowling, fourth grade.
Gold medals, awarded in the de
clamation contest sponsored by
Greenville Council, Knights of Co
lumbus, were presented John
Sowers and Catherine Ryan.
The award for the highest
honors in Religion, donated by
Mrs. James F. Gallivan, was pre
sented to Ann Bissinnar. Michael
Miller won the History medal,
awarded by the Daughters of the
American Revolution, and Joseph
Blandford, the award for the high
est average In arithmetic. Honor
able mention for second high
scholastic honors went to Mary
Catherine Francis, Joseph Bland
ford, Manning Correia, William
Brigham, Agnes Eassy and William
Duke.
The certificates of graduation
were presented by B’ather Sydney
F. Dean, with B'ather Ronald P.
Anderson assisting. Mary Cathe
rine B’rancis delivered the slatu-
taory address and Louis Brigham
was the valedictorian.
Other members of the gradu

Bishop Walsh also presided at
the closing exercises of the Forty
Hours Devotion held at St. Joseph’s
Church and delivered the sermon.

ASSISTANT COACH AT
BENEDICTINE SCHOOL
SAVANNAH. Ga.—Father Bede
Lightner, O. S. B.. principal of
Benedictine Military School, has
announced that John E. “Vic" Mell,
former Benedictine and Miami Uni
versity football and basketball star,
has signed a contract as assistant
to Coach Beattie at Benedictine.
Mr. Mell, a native of Savannah, was
assistant coach at Commercial High
School here last year. In 1947
he was head coach at Emanuel
County Institute at Graymont-
Summit.
