riage of their daughter, Miss Doris
Jeanne Coleman, to Mr. John
Thomas Chaney, of Avondale
Estates, at St. Mary’s Church
Shawneetown, with Father Stephen
R. Freund, the pastor, officiating
and offering the Nuptial Mass.
The bride was attended by her
sister, Miss Lucile Coleman, as
maid of honor, and Thomas Stubbs
of Shawneetown, was the best man
The ushers were Ralph Harmon
and James J. Galt, of Shawnee
town, with Leo Klein, Jr., of Cin
cinnati, and Jordan Chaney, of
Rinard, 111., cousins of the bride
groom.

Mr. Chaney, who attended the
Sacred Heart School and Marist
College in Atlanta, is now a senior
at Southern Illinois University.
Mrs. Chaney is a graduate of
Southern Illinois University, where
she is faculty assistant in the De
partment of Education

ORANGEBURG, S. C. — Miss
Irena Lewicka and Mr. Stephen
Kasprzak, both of Lwow, Poland
were married at Holy Trinity
Church here on-July 11, Father
John Tribull, C.SS.R., officiating,
with Father Joseph Rodig, C.SS.R.,
and Father James Malley, C.SS.R.,
assisting. A reception at the rectory
followed the ceremony, which is
believed to be the first pre-war
romance of displaced persons to
culminate in marriage on Ameri
can soil.
The young couple, who were en
gaged to be married at the time
of the German invasion of Po
land, were separated by the war
and did not see each other again
until just before sailing for New
York under a displaced persons
quota a few weeks ago.
The bridegroom, who had served
in the Polish army had been cap
tured and v/as held prisoner by the
Nqzis for six years, while the bride
was serving in a Nazi work camp.
