Dr, Julian Riley
Dies in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga—Dr. Julian G.
Riley, chief of surgery at St. Jo
seph’s Infirmary, who resigned
only recently because of illness,
died on January 12. Funeral ser
vices were held at the Cathedral
of Christ the King with Father
John Emmerth, S. M., officiating.
. Dr. Riley was one of the city’s
outstanding surgeons and held a
fellowship in the American Col
lege of Surgery.
Born in Orangeburg, S. C., he
received his A. B. degree from the
University of South Carolina in
1918. He received his medical de
gree from Emory University in
1922, and later interned at St. Jo
seph’s. Afterwards he spent two
year; in special work at Woman’s
Hospital, New York City.
Dr. Riley was a member of the
Fulton County Medical Society,
the Medical Association of Geor
gia, the American Medical Associa
tion and the Southeastern Surgi
cal Congress. He was a comman
der in the Navy Medical Corps
during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Miss Katherine Murphy, of
Atlanta; three sisters, Mrs. H.
Way Marsh, Lexington, N. C., Mrs.
Grace Hunt, Greenville, S. C., and
Mrs. Lillian R. Hart, New York
City, and a brother, James B.
Riley, Kissimmee, Fla. -
JOHN T. RONAN
DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for John T. Ronan, who died
December 21, were held at the
Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
Mr. Ronan was the son of the
late John T. Ronan, who was
sheriff of Chatham County for
many years. He was in the produce
business for most of his life and at
one time operated a store on Con
gress street.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Mary O’Connell Ronan; a daughter,
Miss Mary C. Ronan; three sons,
John T. Ronan and Walter J.
Ronan, Savannah, and Lieutenant
Paul M. Ronan, U. S. Air Force,
Philippine Islands; a brother, Wil
liam P. Ronan, of Brooklet, and
three grandchildren.

FUNERAL IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Mrs. Katherine Coleman,
wife of Martin Coleman, who died
December 23, were held at the
Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Mrs. Coleman, who was bom in
Ireland, March 21, 1891, had made
her home in Savannah for the past
five years.
In addition to her husband, she is
survived by a son, Leo M. Coleman,
of Savannah; a sister, Mrs. T. C.
Soper, of Savannah; two brothers,
Michael O’Brien and Edward
O’Brien, of Ireland, and several
cousins in Ireland.

DIES IN SAVANNAH
SAVANNAH, Ga.—Funeral ser
vices for Mrs. Mary V. Ruwe, wife
of Fred B. Ruwe, who died on De
cember 21, were held at the Cathe
dral of St. John the Baptist.
Mrs. Ruwe is survived by two
sons, John L. Kenny, of Savannah,
and Nicholas S. Kenny, Los
Angeles; four grande hi ldr en,
Nicholas S. Kenny, Jr., Savannah,
Mrs, George B. Usher, Springfield,
Miss Pauline Kenny and Miss Mary,
Kenny, Of Savannah.
MRS. GEORGE KEENAN
DIES IN CHARLESTON
CHARLESTON, S. C.— Funeral
services for Mrs. Margaret Eliza
beth Riley Keenan, of Sullivan’s
Island, widow of George Edward
Keenan, who died on January 11,
were held at Stella Maris Church.
Mrs. Keenan was borrt May 7,
1867, at Hilton Head, N. C., the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Riley, of Ireland.
She is survived by two nieces,
Miss Margaret McGolrick and Mrs.
Frank L. Cox, both of Sullivan’s
Island; a nephew, Daniel H. Mc
Golrick. of Texas, and several
great-nieces and great nephews.

DIES IN ALBANY
ALBANY, Ga.—Funeral services
for N. J. Seymour, who died De
cember 22, were held at St.
Theresa’s Church, Father Daniel
J. Bourke officiating. .
Mr. Seymour, pecan grower of
Putney, in Dougherty County,
moved to Georgia- from West de
Pere, Wis., more than thirty years
ago. 7'
He is survived by his wife, the
former Miss Edith Marvin, of
Green Bay, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs.
F. M. Bohmer, Cincinnati, Ohio;, a
son Dr. Glenn, E. Seymour, of Al-

Formation of New
USO in Consolidation
With ASAF Proposed
NEW YORK—(NO—Consolida
tion of Associated Services for
the Armed Forces with the Unit
ed Service Organizations has been
approved by special planning
committees of the two organiza
tions.
This was announced here in a
joint statement by Harvey S.
Firestone, Jr., president of USO,
which has been on a stand-by ba
sis since its deactivation a year
ago, and by Robert Dechert, na
tional chairman Of ASAF. Mem
bers and the boards of directors
of the two organizations must ap
prove the consolidation before it
can become effective.
“The consolidated organization
will be known as the ‘United Ser
vice Organizations, Inc.,’ ’’ the
Firestone-Dechert statement said.
“It will carry on under the fa
miliar wartime banner of USO
the work heretofore carried on by
both USO and ASAF.”
Some time ago the special plan
ning committees were appointed to
study possibility of consolidating
the two groups to best serve “the
spiritual, religious, social, wel
fare and educational needs of the
men and women of the Armed
Forces.” A plan and time sched
ule for the consolidation have now
been unanimously approved at a
joint meeting of the committees.
Approval by the directors is ex
pected as soon as meetings can be
scheduled.
Associated Services for the
Armed Forces, Inc., is made up of
the National Catholic Community
ServicC; the Young Men’s Chris
tian Association and the Jewish
Welfare Board. These groups also
were members of the deactivated
USO, - along with the Salvation
Army, the Young Women’s Chris
tian Association, Travelers’ Aid
and Camp' Shows, Inc.
Secretary of the Navy Fra ns is
P. Matthews, Chairman of the
NCGS Executive Committee; rep
resented the NCOS on the USO
Planning Committee. Msgr. Paul
F. Tanner, Assistant General Sec
retary of the National Catholic
Welfare Conference and a mem
ber of the Board of Directors of
ASAF, is a member of the ASAF
Planning Committee.
