Planning' Bazaar for
Benefit of St. John
Mission in Hapeville
HAPEVILLE, Ga. — Sponsored
by the Ladies’ Guild of St. John
Mission, a fall bazaar will be held
on September 4, from 3 to 11 p. m.,
at the recreation center. Mrs.
James S. Tiffany is general chair
man of the committee arranging
for the affair, the proceeds of
which will go towards the school
building fund.
An open house was held on the
afternoon of July 27 at the new
rectory, at 3440 Old Jonesboro
Road. Recently, Mrs. T. L. Zawor-
ski entertained at a “Stanley par
ty” at her home to help provide
furnishings for the new rectory
where Father George Daly, W'ho is
the priest in charge of the mis
sion, will make his home.
Mrs. Albion Golden, Miss Beryl
Brown, Mrs. James Tiffany and
Mrs Geoi'ge Jacks are publishing
a parish bulletin which is distribu
ted each Sunday and which keeps
the congregation informed as to
mission announcements, and pro
vides also a brief religious instruc
tion.
With Mrs. N. S. Topshe as gen
eral chairman of the committee in
charge, the Guild sponsored an
ice cream festival and social on
the lawn of St. Anthony’s Church
in Atlanta.
Members of the Holy Name So
ciety are engaged in a campaign
to raise funds to build a parochial
school in Hapeville.
Mrs. Robert J. Longer
Funeral in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. — Funeral ser
vices for Mrs. Robert J. Langer,
who died August's, were held at
the Co-Cathedral of Christ the
King, with Father John F. Mc
Donough officiating. Burial was in
Indianapolis.
Mrs. Langer was the wife of a
prominent Film Row personality,
Robert Langer, of National Screen
Service. Born in Marion, Ohio,
she was the former Miss Geral
dine Marie O’Flaherty.
A resident of Atlanta for seven
years, Mrs. Langer was active in
social and philanthropic circles
here.' She was a member of the
Parent - Teacher Association of
Christ the King School.
Surviving Mrs. Langer are her
husband; a son, Robert J. Langer,
II, and her mother, Mrs. Helen
Gordon, ail of Atlanta.
Dr. N. M. Gwensby
Dies in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga—Funeral ser
vices for Dr. Newdigate Moreland
Owensby, nationally known Atlan
ta psychiatrist, who died August
10, were held at the Sacred He'art
Church, Father John Fmmerth, S.
M., officiating.
Dr. Owensby, psychiatrist in
chief of Brookhaven Manor Sani
tarium at Stone Mountain, was
at the time of his death consulting
psychiatrist at Grady Hospital, St.
Joseph’s Infirmary and Georgia
Railroad Hospital. He was also .con
sulting psychiatrist for the Georgia
Railroad and Atlanta and West
Point Railroad and diplomat of the
American Board of Psychiatry.
He was the first psychiatrist in
the United States to use metrazol
shock therapy He administered
the treatment with remarkable
success to a number of patients in
1937.
Born in Owensbyville, Ga., Dr.
Owensby was the son of the late
Dr. John Moreland Owensby and
Mrs. Mary Hatcher Owensby. He
received his M. D. degree from the
University of Maryland School of
Medicine in 1904, and did post
graduate work in London, Edin
burgh, Berlin, Munich, Vienna and
Paris.
Before coming to Atlanta he was
cheif psychiatrist at Bay View in
Baltimore, and assistant in psychia
try and clinical demonstrator in
neurology at Johns Hopkins Medi
cal School. He served on the lec
turing and teaching staffs of several
institutions including Medical Col
lege at the University of Mary
land, the University Of Baltimore
and the University of Georgia. In
addition, he was lecturer at the
Medical Officers Training School
at Fort Oglethorpe and in 1943
was guest lecturer in the field
for the U. S. Army School of Mili
tary Neuro-psychiatry.
The pioneer in the psychiatry
field held the honors of being
founder and fellow of the Southern
Psychiatric Association and was a
member of the American Associa
tion for the Advancement of Sci
ence and the Public Education
Committee of the American Psy
chiatric Association.
Dr. Owensby is survived by his
wife, the former MisS Edna Harri
son, of Washington, D. C.

.DIES. IN CALIFORNIA
; ATLANTA, Ga. — Funeral ser
vices for George A. Manning, for
merly of Atlanta, who died on July
22, in San Franciseo, were held in
that city.
Born in Atlanta. Mr. Manning
was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William Manning. He had
been a resident of California since
1945. '
Mr. Manning is survived by his
wife; two sisters, Mrs. G: P. Don-
nellan and Miss Mary Manning; two,
brothers, A. J. Manning and Wil
liam A: Manning, and several
nieces and nephews, all of Atlanta.

Mrs. Arthur Morgan
Funeral in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. — Mrs. Cora A.
Morgan, former restaurant and ho
tel owner, died on July 22 at her
home in College Park. Funeral ser
vices were held at St. Anthony’s
Church, with Father George Daly
officiating.
Born in Madison County, Mrs.
Morgan moved to Athens from
Gainesville and during the early
1900s operated a restaurant and
hotel on Jackson Street in Athens.
While in business, Mrs. Morgan was
a benefactress to a number of stu
dents who worked with her in re
turn for hoard and lodging while
attending classes at the Univer
sity of Georgia.
Mrs. Morgan, the widow of Ar
thur Morgan, moved to College
Park in 1930. She is survived bya
daughter, Mrs. M. L, Todd, College
Park; two sisters, Mrs. Octavia
Brown, Atlanta, and Mrs Cleo
Schweibinz, Pittsburgh: a brother,
Ross Moore, Atlanta, and a grand
daughter, Mrs. Billie Lee Phillips,
College Park.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Mrs. Marga
ret Campbell, a member of the
parish of the Cathedral of Christ
the King, died at her home here
ori August 4. Funeral services
were held in, South Fork, Pa.,
Mrs. Campbell is survived by
two daughters; Mrs. J. M. Lin-
denstruth,, Atlanta, and: Mrs. Wil
liam Bella, Philadelphia, and one
son,-• Robert A. Campbell, Cres-
son, Pa. .
