The Savannah - Atlanta Dioce
san Council of Catholic Women
sends to His Holiness, Pope Pius
XXII, a renewed pledge of af
fection and loyalty, and. begs
the blessing of the Holy Father
on the work and prayers of the
members of this Council.
We pledge to His Excellency,
Archbishop Gerald P. O’Hara,
our continued efforts for the
progress of the Church in Geor
gia, and we send to His Excellen
cy our best wishes for health and
happiness and every blessing.
We wish to thank His Excellen
cy, Bishop Francis E. Hyland,
for his constant encouragement
in the Council program, and \ye
promise him even greater efforts
in promoting Catholic Action
during the coming year.
In view of the continued op
pression of people within the
Communist orbit, particularly
the recently separated land of
Vietnam, we make a plea to all
who love justice and hate iniqui
ty that they will stand with us
ir\ prayer and in protest; in pray
er for the afflicted; in protest
against misuke of prower.
Continuing reports from Ar
gentina of arrests of clergy, of
the closing of Catholic schools,
the restriction or religious teach
ing, and similar attacks on the
rights of the Church are serious
and ominous. We offer to the
Catholic women of that nation
sentiments of sincere sympathy
and encouragement in their hour
of anxiety and anguish.

san Council of Catholic Women
urge our Congressmen to sup
port Continued and Expanded
Technical Assistance Programs
of the UN and Economic Devel
opment Programs of U.S. Such
programs we believe are the
practical way to bridge economic
gaps between the “have” and
“have not” nations, and to act
as agents to ease and remove
tensions that are a daily danger
to world peace. Because we can
afford survival, we can afford
to help defeat agression and bear
our fair share of an economic
and social offensive against pov
erty, hunger, disease, ignorance
and fear.
His Holiness, Pope Pius XII,
has called on the Bishops of the
world to take action against im
modesty in dress, which has
“spiritually ruinous effects”, es
pecially on young people and is
a “MOST SERIOUS PLAGUE
OF THE PRESENT TIME”.
These “indecencies of fashion, es
pecially in the summertime, fur
nish a sad and blameworthy
spectacle”, we, Catholic women
of Georgia, resolve to encourage
modesty in dress among our
selves and our children both by
word and example. We believe
that the body is the temple of
out by the ushers to the con
gregation asking for the names
and addresses and phone num
bers of Catholic woman interest
ed in helping with local activities.
Before the meeting was adjourn
ed thanks were extended to Mrs.
Wvrosdick. Mrs. Burke and Mrs.
Landry for a most enjoyable
meeting.
the Holy Ghost and. should be
preserved from any profanation.
We are conscious of the racial
tensions which have increased
among us during the past year.
We resolve to pray for the just
and peaceful solution of this
pressing problem. As Catholic
and American women, we appeal
to our public officials to recog
nize the claims of justice and
charity due to every citizen of
our beloved State. We urge the
adoption of the “COMMUNITY
COUNCIL PLAN”, in the vari
ous communities to accomplish
this objective.
Appalled by the increase in
mental illness and emotional dis
turbances in our modern socie
ty, we urge the establishment of
local mental health clinics and
psychiatric wards in our general
hospitals. We likewise urge the
creation of research centers in
which studies may be made for
the improvements of treatment
for the mentally ill.
Our gratitude is extended to
the members of the Columbus
Deanery Council for their graci
ous hospitality. We thank the
management of the Ralston Hotel
for its service, and the press,
radio and television of Colum
bus for their excellent covering.
We are grateful to all who par
ticipated in making this conven
tion so profitable and enjoyable.
