ALBANY, Ga.—On July 14th,
Father Roland C. Reny, Catholic
Chaplain for Turner Air Force
Base, Albany, Georgia, celebrat
ed his 20th year in the priest
hood, with a Solemn High Mass
at 8 p.m. in- the “Chapel in the
Pines”, Turner AFB.
Father Reny, a native of Bos
ton. Mass., was ordained at the
University of Loubain, Loubain,
Belgium. Pie is a graduate of
Holy Cross College, Worchester,
Mass., class of 1929. After ordina
tion, Father Reny began his reli
gious life in the parish of St.
Mary in Augusta, Maine. He en
tered the Army Air Force in
1943 and was first assigned to
Traux Field, Wis., for one year,
then later to Sioux Falls, S. D.,
and Langley. Field, Va. Father
was assigned to the European
Theater of Operations in March,
1946 through May, 1949. While
there he. was chosen as Chaplain
for the Nuremberg War Trials.
After a three year stateside tour
of duty, Father Reny was assign
ed to the 17th Bomb Wing, Korea
as Wing Staff Chaplain and as
Chaplain at the return of prison
ers at Panmunjom.
In December, 1953, Father
Reny came to Turner AFB and
has been instrumental in getting
the Catholic organizations to
function as a parish. Among these
are an active Holy Name Society,
Ladies Guild, High Mass every
Sunday, monthly parish socials
and others too numerous to men
tion.
Father was presented with a
beautiful gold chalice by M-Sgt.
Dennis Sullivani* president, of the
Holy Name Society, in the name
of the Catholic personnel at
Turner.
Major Eugene Leiter expressed
the appreciation of the parish
in having Father Reny in their
presence and for the work he has
done in building the parish.
Assisting Father Reny at Mass
were Father Otto Sporrer, USMC
Supply Center, deacon, and
Father Henry, O.F.M., Americus,
Georgia, sub-deacon.
Fourth Degree Knights of
Columbus acted as a Guard of
of Honor.
Music was furnished, by the
combined St. Claire and Turner
AFB Catholic Choir, under the
direction of Father Brenden
Pyle, O.F.M,, and Norman. Weis-
locher, organist.
"BIG SISTER"
PROGRAM AT
FONTIONNE
A “big sister” program will
welcome newcomers to Font-
bonne College, St. Louis, Mis
souri, this fall. In it upper
classmen have planned a series
of get-togethers for the new stu
dents.
The fall derm at Fontbonne
which is conducted by the Sis
ters of St. Joseph of Carondelet
will begin September 19, with
convocation September 21 to be
addressed by Sister Susanne
Marie, C.S.J., president.
A new course in early child
hood education to train teachers
of young children in day-care
centers, nursery schools and
kindergartens will be opened at
the college this fall. The course
is also highly recommended as
training for the future mother
who will thus acquire scientific
background for understanding
her children.
The new division is in addition
to the established course in. edu
cation which give students the
necessary training for acquiring
teaching certificates in their na
tive states.

Savannahiarts Attend
Journalism Institute
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Veronica
Schuster and Patricia Schano
from Savannah attended the
eighth annual Journalism In
stitute for High School Students
at Catholic University of Amer
ica from June 20 to July 15.-
Both will be seniors at St.
Vincent’s Academy. Veronica
will be associate editor of the
Flash, the school newspaper,
while Patricia will be page one
editor.
Dr. Regis L. Boyle was direc
tor of the four-week summer in
stitute which trains journalists
for. editorships on their school
papers. The workshop aims to
teach the fundamentals of 'jour
nalism and to provide practical
experience in editing the Pioneer,
the summer session newspaper.
Seventy-one enrolled in the
institute represented 11 states
and the District of Columbia.
Veronica is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Peter Schuster; Patri
cia, of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse
Schano of Savannah.
It takes a lot of courage to
let the other fellow win a point,
especially when you know you
were wrong from the beginning.
