during the Marian Year and
thought to be the first of its
kind in North America, has been
brought from Switzerland to be
used at Our Lady of Grace
Shrine, Mary lake, near King,
Ontario.
This exceptional vessel, which
exposes the Blessed Sacrament
to the view of the people at
Benediction and Exposition and
which is carried in procession on
Corpus Christi, will be solemnly
blessed by His Eminence James
C. Cardinal McGuigan, Arch
bishop of Toronto at the shrine
on Sunday, August 21.
The pedestal of the monst
rance, which stands two and a
half feet high, consists of a
statuette of Mary with arms
raised upwards toward the os-
tensorium which holds the Bles
sed Sacrament. The statuette
stands on a globe of ivory
around which are encrusted the
solid gold leters: “Ad Jesum per
Mariam” (To Jesus Through
Mary). The ostensorium itself is
surrounded by 12 silver stars
and several golden rays- forming
a cross.
