Thomas Davenport, pastor of a Catholic Church at Bunker Hill, 111., received a suprjse Saturday when he paid his first visit to Brunswick, the home of his fath er, Thomas Davenport, Sr., who moved to Chicago around the beginning of the century. Looking for*the home of his aunt, Mrs. C. L. Davenport, St. Simons Island, he went to the rectory of St. Francis Xavier Church here to inquire direc tions. The priest who came to the door was the Rev. -James Cum mings, who had arrived a few days earlier to become pastor here. They quickly recognized one another as high school mates at Chicago, They had not met since then, nearly 25 years ago, and did not know the other had be come a priest. Father Davenport celebrated Masses yesterday at St. William’s Chapel and left today for Flori da on a vacation trip. Sisters Participate In Summer Work Shop ATLANTA, Ga.—A committee of fifteen Sisters from seven religi ous communities representing the Dioceses of Savannah-Atlan- ta and Mobile-Birmingham par ticipated in a six-week Work shop this summer at Sacred Heart Junior College, Cullman, Alabama. The Sisters, under the direction of Sister Gerald, O.P., revised sections of the Teachers’ Guides for Grades One through Eight. The revision follows the pattern set by the original Guides which were constructed in simil ar Workshops during the sum mers of 1948-1950. The Guides are designed to foster the growth of the individual child according to the principles of Christian Social Living. The revision of portions of the present course of study was made primarily to satisfy the needs experienced by the teachers during the years in which the original Teachers’ Guides have been in use in the Dioceses and also, to bring up- to-date the various materials which have been recommended. The Workshop, sponsored by Monsignor Cornelius L. Maloney, Ph.D., Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Mobile-Bir mingham, consisted of the fol lowing Sisters: Sister Gerard, O.P., Chairman, Sister M. Elementary Supervisor for the Diocese of Mobile-Birmingham, Sister M. Nathaniel, R. S. M., Homewood, Sister Philothea, S. L., Daphen, and Sister Marcian- na, O.P., Chickasaw. MONSIGNOR CORNELIUS L. MALONEY, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Savannah-Atlanta, reports that, under his and Monsignor Leo: Byrnes’ direction, the above gioup of Sis ters from Alabama and Georgia conducted a Workshop for the Sec ondary Schools this past summer. The group, which met at Bishop Toolen High School, Mobile, studied the subjects to be taught in the Social Studies field, and the placement of these subjects in the high school. Special attention was given to the organization of an appropriate course for the freshman year. MRS. MANSOUR SERVICES HELD ATLANTA, Ga.—Funeral serv ices for Mrs. Tom Mansour were held August 16th at the Immacu late Conception Church, Rev. Father Donald R. Kiernan offici ating.
