It is so essential that those who plan to attend the Convention and Congress should register in ad vance for some one particular workshop. This can be done by dropping a" note to Monsignor McNamara, General Chairman of the Convention and Congress. Desk in the Gen eral Oglethorpe Hotel upon ar rival for the joint meeting. The many activities of the Confraternity of Christian Doc trine, which will be spelled out in terms of Workshops, are so many challenges to our Georgia laymen and laywomen in their desire to see the objective of the Laymen’s Association full}' implemented. In an article of this length it is impossible to go into detail about each workshop. In the current issue of THE BULLETIN it is of the \yorkshop on Lay Catechists we would speak’ briefly. In a subsequent article a description of the other Work shops will be given. Recently Bishop Joseph Gil more of Helena, Montana, ad dressing the CCD Diocesan Di rectors, said that the greatest specific challenge facing the Church in America today is the millions of Catholic children in public schools, who are receiv ing either inadequate Religious Instruction, or no Religious In struction at all. Bishop Gilmore went on further to say that pop ulation gains have so inundated the existing schools, that the CCD’s religious instruction pro gram has taken on the nature of a survival plan. How neces sary then the Lay Catechist to supplement the work of priest, brother and sister. At first thought the average layman would fight shy at becoming a Lay Catechist, a teacher of Re ligion, and rightly so, if not pre pared. The Lay Catechist Work shop points the way, allays fears, inspires confidence and instills enthusiasm for this truly neces sary apostolate on the part of our laity. This Workshop on Lay Catech ists and the other Workshops as well should make of our 40th Annual Laymen’s Association one memorable in the annuals of-our organization. If you have not al ready registered for the Conven tion and Congress do so at once by clipping' the Registration Blank from the current issue of THE BULLETIN and sending it. properly filled out to the Gen eral Chairman, Monsignor Mc Namara. In the meanwhile keep the Convention and Congress in your prayers, asking God that our Diocese of Savannah-Atlanta might reap the great fruit their program holds out to the Church in Georgia. A. T.
