TO MEET OCTOBER 8TH-9TH
The annual convention of the
Catholic Laymen League of Geor
gia will be held in Savannah,
Georgia, October 8 and 9, 1955.
■ Convention Headquarters will
be St. Benedict’s Rectory, 556 East
’Gordon Street, Savannah, Geor-
igia.
Saturday evening, October 8, at
7:00 p. m. a Holy Hour will be
held at St. Benedict’s Church,
Rev. Father Edward F. Murphy, S.
S. J. PH. D„ LLD., Dean of Re
ligion and Philosophy, Xavier Un
iversity, New Orleans, Louisiana,
will be the speaker. Father Mur
phy is the author of 12 books and
is a noted Priest, Orator and Edu
cator.
Sunday. October 9 at 10:00 a. m.,
a High Mass will be at the Ca
thedral of St. John the Baptist.
The celebrant will be announced
depending on the health of the
Auxiliary Bishop. Communion
Breakfast will be served at Pious
X. High School, immediately af
ter High Mass at the Cathedral.
Annual banquet and public
meeting will be held at St. Pious
X. Gymnasium. Greetings will
be extended by officials of the
city, county and churches.
The principal speaker will be
the Honorable Hulan E. Jack,
president of the Borough of Man
hattan, Greater New York. Mr.
Jack is past president of the Holy
Name Society and is the first Ne
gro in the world to be elected to
a $25,000 a year position.
His Excellency, The Most Rev.
Bishop Hyland. Auxiliary Bishop
of the Archdioceses ' of' Savannah
and Atlanta, will receive the dis
tinguished service award for
building St. Pious X. High School.
The general public is invited to
attend the Holy Hour, Mass and
Banquet.

Robins School
Warner Robins Ga.—The newly
established school of the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church here for
children of the first through 4th
grades opened recently with the
Rev. Felix Donnelly, pastor, serv
ing as principal.
Father Donnelly also assists the
school’s lay teachers in instruct
ing the classes.
The 4-room school, known as
Sacred Heart School, was devel
oped from the framework of the
former Parish Hall, located on
church property. Construction
work was done by the men of the
church under supervision of Lt.
Col. Americo Maguello.
The teachers are Mrs. James
Devanney and Mrs. Dan Sebastian
both of Warner Robins. Mrs. Phil
lip Smith, also a Robins resident,
serves as part-time music instruc
tor for the school.
Mrs. Devanney, native of Ohio,
was graduated from Our Lady of
Cincinnatti College where she .re
ceived her bachelor of arts degree.
She and her husband, an Air Force
lieutenant, moved to Robins a few
weeks ago.
A native of Pinehurst with 20
years of teaching experience, Mrs.
Sebastian served on the faculty of
Robins Charles Thomas School for
10 years. She attended Georgia
Southwestern College in Ameri-
cus.
Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Si
ena Heights Catholic College in
Adrian, Mich., with a bachelor of
music degree. She also studied
music while attending Florida
State College for Women, later
serving as director of music for
Palm Beach county schools.

ALTAR SOCIETY
PLANS DINNER
ATLANTA, Ga. — Mrs. Julian
Trivers, president of the Christ
the King Altar Society at the Ex
ecutive Board Meeting held this
week at her home on 3542 Pied
mont Road, N. E., announced
plans for a dinner-dance to be
held Saturday evening, Novem
ber 5, at the Dinkier Plaza Hotel.
Approximately 1000 members,
parishioners, and friends of Christ
the King Co-Cathedral are expect
ed for the event. Proceeds realiz
ed from the affair will be used for
maintenance of the altar and lit
urgical vestments.
Appointed as general chairman
of the dinner-dance was Mrs. Fred
Bull, 495 Westover Drive N. W.,
who has been active in many
church projects as well as in St.
Joseph’s Infirmary and numerous
community groups.
Serving as co-chairman is Mrs.
Robert Schwab, Jr., 2989 Haber
sham Road, N. W.
Assisting the general chairman
will be Mesdames Ross Ashby and
Charles Simons, tickets; Carling
Dinkier, Jr., adult prizes; Reese
Coleman, children’s prizes; Jul
ian N. Trivers, decorations; and
George Gunning, hospitality.

Dies In Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga.—Funeral serv
ices for Andrew M. Kennedy were
held September 17th at the Ca
thedral of Christ the King, Rev.
John F. McDonough officiating.
Survivors are his wife, two
brothers, J. L. and W- E. Kennedy,
of Decatur; niece, Mrs. T. H. Mell,
of Wayne, Pa.; giandnieces, Mrs.
Lewis Battey of Augusta, and Mrs.
Peggy Morton, of Greensberg, Pa.
