News From
St. John's
MRS. CHARLES FLESH
If you are like me you are
happy to go on vacation and
happier to get back to daily rou
tine. I enjoyed my vacation and
the vacation of those who spent
their time with us but I am glad
to get back to work and report
to you the events of our church
during the past month.
The Ice Cream Social which
took place on August 21 was
a success, thanks to all who at
tended the event. Hostesses were
Miss Virginia Colt, Mesdames
John J. Demarest, Gerald Fitz
gerald, A. B. Parker, T. E. Zar-
worski and T. L. Zarworski. The
table setting, under the super
vision of Mrs. John J. Mishasek,
was a beautiful job. A nice, wide
assortment of cakes and candies
were donated by the ladies of
the Parish.
One of the main attractions at
the Social was the baby contest.
Judges were Miss Virginia Colt,
Mrs. A. G. Johnson, and Mr.
Robert Smith. The lady judges,
as well as the hostesses, wore
astor corsages. In the infant to
18 month old class little Mary
Joan Winters and Jimmie Edge
were the winners. From 18
months to 3% years Tina Topshe
and Tim Phillips took the prizes.
In the 31/2 years to 5 Y2 years
group Katie Foley and Jimmie
Arnold walked off with the the
honors.
Mrs. Anthony Saxon won the
door prize, a cake made by Mrs.
F. D. Allgood. Mr. Ohapman
won the cake raffled, made by
Mrs. Leonard J. O’Melia. Mrs.
L. A. Miller won the handmade
rug, and Mrs. John J. Maher
won the apron.
Your reporter had never had
the occasion or privilege to talk
with any of our Sisters of Mercy
before their return this August
24. I called Sister Mary Alberta,
introduced myself, and on behalf
of the Ladies Guild welcomed
the Sisters back home. I had a
most delightful talk with Sis
ter Alberta. She reported that
she, Sisters Mary Assumpta,
Mary Jude and Delores Marie
drove back from Philadelphia.
Two visiting sisters, Mary Ama-
bilis and Stella Marie, accom
panied them. The visiting' sis
ters were greatly impressed with
the quality of our buildings and
equipment.
The teaching sisters have pre
pared an excellent and busy edu
cational program for our chil
dren. We parents must, of course,
cooperate to insure the complete
success of our childrens’ edu
cation.
Registration of pupils this
year has doubled that of last
year. Also, this year we have a
kindergarten under the tutelage
of Mrs. James A. Clarke. First
grade is under the supervision of
Sister Mary Assumpta; second
grade Sister Mary Jude; third,
grade Mrs. John Loth; fourth
and fifth grades Sister Delores
Marie; sixth and seventh grades
Sister Mary Alberta.
His Eminence Valerio Cardinal

fairs of Religious is visiting Ger
