Council loots
DUBLIN, Ga. — The Immacu-
Ijate Conception Parish Council of
(£atholic Women held their Sep
tember meeting at the home of
Miss Louise Ludwig, September
12th at 8 o’clock with Mrs. G. C.
Daniel, President, presiding, as
sisted by Miss Louise Ludwig,
Secretary.
The meeting v/as opened with a
prayer to Our Lady of Good
Council. After roll call and read
ing of the minutes of - the last
meeting by Miss Louise Ludwig,
Mrs. J. B. Johnson gave the Treas
urer’s report. Mrs. Daniel then ex
tended a cordial welcome to new
members of the Council: Mrs.
Robert Dinan, Mrs. G. L. Hall,
Mrs. A. T. Skinner, and to Mrs.
Lloyd Alexander and Miss Dunne,
visitors.
Mrs. Louis Benchina reported on
Catholic Charities, Dr. Elizabeth
Holmes on Literature and Libra
ries, Mrs. W. F. Govereau on work
at the Veterans Hospital, and Miss
Louise Ludwig on sale of Christ
mas cards.
Plans were made for a Bake
Sale to be held for the benefit of
St. Thomas Vocational School in
Savannah and for a covered dish
supper to be held in October.
A letter was read from Miss
Anna Rice, Deanery President,
extending a cordial invitation to
all members of the Council to at
tend the annual luncheon of the
Augusta Deanery to be held in
Augusta on October 2nd.
! Father Brennan extended good
wishes to the Council for a very
successful year. He also discussed
.plans for the Study Club which
■will be formed in October.
The meeting was closed with
prayer by Father Brennan.
A delightful social hour was en
joyed. Those attending were:

Plans were announced for the
observance of United Nations
Day. Members were reminded
of the 9th Regional Conference
of the Confraternity of Christian
Doctrine and the 40th anniversa
ry of the Catholic Laymen’s As
sociation of Georgia to be held
October 21-23 at the General
Ogiethorpe Hotel.
A prayer was offered for the
recovery of President Eisen
hower.
Dr. Jay McLean, director of
radiation of the Savannah Tu
mor Clinic, was guest speaker.
An educational film was shown
by W. E. Gilchrist.
A report was given on the
cancer dressing and pad commit
tee and volunteers were asked to
assist with the work.
Members were welcomed by

Catholic Hour
Series Subject
Christian Marriage is the sub
ject of a series of five programs to
be given by Very Reverend Fran
cis J. Connell, C. SS. R., on the
Catholic Hour (NBC 2:00-2:30 P.
M„ EST) during the Sundays of
October. On the first broadcast
on October 2nd, Father Connell
will discuss the preliminary re
quirements of marriage which
should be considered by couples
about to enter the matrimonial
state. The sacrament of marriage
and its significance is the theme
of the second program on October
9th. In the weeks to follow, Fath
er Connell will emphasize the im
portance of marriage and its pri
mary purpose.
Specifically, these topics will be
presented on the following dates
under these titles:
October 16 — “Faithful Unto
Death”.
October 23 — “Of Such is the
Kingdom of Heaven”.
October 30 — “Christ the King
of the Home”.
The music for these programs
will be presented by the Choir of
the Shrine of the Sacred Heart of
Washington, D. C., under the su
pervision of Mr. Everett Kinsman.
A native Bostonian, Father Con
nell is the Dean of the School of
Sacred Theology at the Catholic
University of America. He also
holds an honorary degree of Doc
tor of Law from Notre Dame Un
iversity. In addition to being one
of the leading theologians in the
nation. Father Connell is already
well known for his books on the
subject, and is a familiar person
ality to Catholic Hour audiences.

HALLOWEEN
ALBANY, Ga. — St. Teresa’s
Parent-Teacher Association held
its first meeting of the 1955-56
term on Wednesday, September
14th, in the school auditorium.
The meeting opened with a prayer
by the Rev. Daniel J. Bourke.
The executive board for this
year is as follows: Spiritual direc
tor, the Rev. Daniel J. Bourke;
president Mrs. Eddie Anderson;
vice president, Mrs. J. T. Webb;
financial secretary, Mrs. Herman
Turner; recording secretary, Mrs.
George S. Jenkins; historian, Mrs.

The president welcomed new
members and introduced the fac
ulty of St. Teresa’s School: Sister
Eugene, principal, 7th and 8th
grades; Mrs. Gustav Gotsch, kin
dergarten; Sister Anita, 1st grade;
Sister William, 2nd grade; Sister
Herman Joseph, 3rd grade; Mrs.
W. Barton, 4th grade; Sister Alma,
5th grade; Sister Dominic, 6 th
grade.

T. A. meeting.
The overseas clothing drive has
started and any clothing will be
appreciated.
A spaghetti supper will be held
on Shrove Tuesday, February 14,
1956 in the school auditorium.

lowe’en Carnival to be held Oc
tober 27 on the church grounds
with Mrs. Joseph Rau, chairman
and Mrs. John Wolfe and Mrs.
Robert McCormack, Jr., co-chair

Plans Family Picnic
SAVANNAH, Ga.—A meeting
of the Sacred Heart Home School
Association was held September
13, at the School. It was announc
ed that the first affair of the year
will be a family picnic October 5
at Villa Marie. Everyone is asked
to bring a picnic lunch and trans
portation will be available at the
school for those who need it. A
Hallowe’en party will be given
the evening of October 27.
Mrs. John Phillips, president,
presided, and the standing com
mittees for the ensuing year were
appointed. They are: Mrs. O. R.
Killorin, membership: Mrs. Jos
eph Hester, Mrs. Joseph Willon,
hospitality; Mrs. John James, Mrs.

Saint Patrick’s
Parish Council
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The first
meeting of the Fall Season of the
Council of Catholic Women and
Altar Society of St. Patrick’s Par
ish was held Monday evening,
September 12th, at the Rectory,
with Mrs. H. S. Buckley, Presi
dent, presiding.
The Chairmen of various com
mittees announced their plans for
the coming season, all of which
were received with interest and
approval.
Mrs. D. F. Whaley and Mrs. W.
D. Moore gave an interesting re
port on activities of the Catholic
Charities Committee during the
past summer. They described the
work being done in making band
ages for Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Home, for incurable cancer
patients, in Atlanta, and called on
volunteers to assist in this worthy
endeavor. A report was also given
on a party for the patients of
Richmond County Home, in
which members of all Catholic
Parishes of the city participated.
Miss Mary Sullivan, Chairman
of Libraries and Literature, re
quested material to be distributed
to the patients of Oliver General
and Lenwood Hospitals.
Tickets were distributed for the
Deanery Luncheon to be held at
the Richmond Hotel, Sunday, Oc
tober 2nd.
Father Weltzer, Pastor, addres
sed the meeting and outlined the
program for the joint convention
of the Confraternity of Christian
Doctrine and Catholic Laymen’s
Association, to be held in Savan
nah on October 21st, 22nd, and
23rd, and urged as many as pos
sible to attend.
The meeting was closed with a
prayer, after which refreshments
were served by Miss Frances
Buckley and Mrs. H. B. Roberts.
Cathedral
School Opens
BELMONT, N. C— Cathedral
School at Belmont, N. C., open
ed with a Record Enrollment
on Sept. 12 with a substantial
increase over last year’s enroll
ment. Sister Jeanne Mtrie is the
progressive Principal qt Ca
thedral School this year, and as
usual a varied and interesting
curriculum is offered. Besides
the standard eight year program
for the grades,' opportunities are
available in the way of athletics,
music, dancing, and art. It is
hoped that a band will be inau
gurated this year.
Boarders from Sacred Heart
Academy, St. Leo’s School for
Boys, and Day Students from
Gastonia, Mt. Holly, Cramerton,
Belmont, McAdenville, Cramer
ton, Stanley, and Charlotte, and
neighboring vicinities are in at
tendance at Cathedral School
and many parts of the world are
represented in its student body.
A Unit of the National Civics
Club Organization which is spon
sored by the Catholic Universi
ty of America is being establish
ed in the Eighth Grade this
year.
The Brothers of the Sacred
Heart have opened their first
school in England.
