FIRST HOLY COMMUNION—With folded hands and uplifted

first holy communion at Fort Gordon (Ga.) Chapel No. 10. Chap

of the Catholic Woman’s Club
were elected at the meeting
held recently in the club rooms.

Buckley announced plans for a
banquet to be held in the Camel
lia Room of the Manger Hotel
June 4. The banquet will be pre
ceded by a short business meet
ing, the last of the year.
Mrs. Joseph E. Kelly Sr. presi
dent, reported on the club activi
ties for the past year. The Rev.
Norbert McGowan, O.S.B., spoke
on the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Mrs. C. C. Carswell won the
membership prize.
Refreshments were served.

elected President of the Sacred
Heart Mothers’ Club for the

I’Round The Mount
I Wins Two Awards
AUGUSTA. Ga. — ’Round the
| Mount, school newspaper of Mt.
| St. Joseph Academy, won two
awards during the 29th annual
convention of the Georgia Schol
astic Press Association at Athens.
The publication was awarded
the Henry Grady Cup for being
judged the best mimeographed
newspaper among the state’s high
schools this year. It also was one
of seven papers given certificates
of distinction.

THOMAS CANTY CLASS—Pictured above are Mr. John F.
Canty, and his son, Mr. John F. Canty, Jr. The two were snapped
at the Fourth Degree exemplification held in Savannah May 5th.
The event was most unusual. John F. Cantry, Jr. was a candidate
for the degree, his father, John, Sr., being the present Faithful-
Navigator of the Immaculate Conception General Assembly, Sav
annah. The Class was named in honor of the Cantys’ late brother"
and uncle, Thomas J. Canty.—(Cawley’s Studio).
STUDY SPANISH IN JAPAN
American soldiers spend their evenings studying Spanish at the
International Division of Nanzan, the Catholic University of
Nagoya, Japan. Only Japanese students attend the college dur-
ing the day, but the Divine Word Fathers provide classes for any
interested adults during evening hours. Funds to carry on the
school are provided through S.V.D. Catholic Universities, 316 N.
