years Father Dorn was connected
with The Queen’s Work and the
Sodality movement in St. Louis.
He is now a member of the facul
ty of the Jesuit High School, New
Orleans.
Father Dorn’s brother, Father
Dorn, lost his health during his
studies in theology. The doctors
holding out little help for his re
covery, he was ordained ahead of
his class and sent to the South
west in the hope that the climate
there would benefit his health.
He died there a few years before
Father Lambert’s ordination.
On July 1, 1932, Father Wil
liam D. O’Leary, S. J., went back
to Sacred Heart Church for his
first Mass. Born in Augusta Au
gust 31. 1895, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas J. O’Leary, he at
tended Sacred Heart School, Sac
red Heart College, the University
of Georgia and the Medical Col
lege of the University of Georgia;
he received the degrees of Bache
lor of Science and Doctor of Med
icine from the University. Du
ring World War I he attended
the Officers’ Training School at
Plattsburg, N. Y., receiving' a
commission in the Medical Re
serve. After serving as an interne
in Cambridge City and Boston
City Hospitals in Massachusetts
from 1921 to 1923, and after en
gaging in the practice of medicine,
specializing in pediatrics, in New
York from 1923 to 1925, he enter
ed the Society of Jesus at Grand
Coteau, La- He studied philosophy
at St. Louis University and the
ology at St. Mary’s in Kansas,
where .he was ordained by Bishop
Johannes of Leavenworth.He did
graduate work at St. Louis Uni
versity, in Boston and at the Uni
versity of Pennsylvania in the
field of psychology and psychia
try.
After -serving as minister for
the Jesuit school of philosophy at.
Grand Coteau and at Spring Hill,
he was president of Spring Hill
College from 1938 to 1946, then
going to Loyola University as
acting dean and then as regent of
the School of Dentistry. A con

spared to the priesthood for many
years; shortly after his ordination
his health failed, and he died , at

Father Thomas F. Maher, after

j Tubercurry, Sligo,' Ireland, the
home of his deceased mother.
Father Maher returned to the
South the following year; he has
been engaged in pastoral work
and teaching there since except;
for the years during and after
the war when he served here and
abroad as a chaplain in the U.S.
Navy. He is now a member of the
faculty of Loyola University.
