Party Dec. 29th
ALBANY Ga.,—The Knights of
Columbus Auxiliary held its No
vember meeting in the K. C. Hall
cn Tuesday, Nov. 20th at 8 p. m.
The meeting was opened with
prayer and the president, Mrs:
L. E. Mock, Sr., presided.
A Christmas party, to be held
in the K. C. Hall on Saturday,
December 29th, from 8 p. m. un
til midnight, was planned. The
president appointed Mrs. Thomas
Coleman and Mrs. Joseph Blazer
to be chairman and co-chairman
respectively.
The president appointed a nom
inating committee as follows:
Mrs. John Ross, chairman, .Mrs.
M. B. Harrison, and Mrs. Joseph
Blazer. These ladies will bring
in a slate of officers to be voted
cn at the December meeting.
The meeting was then turned
over to Mrs. Leslie Cahill who
presented the second portion of
a very interesting program on
Parliamentary Law.
Sf. Vincent's Alumnae
Name Representatives
SAVANNAH, Ga.—It was an
nounced at a meeting of St. Vin
cent’s Alumnae Tuesday evening
at the convent that Mrs. William
C. Broderick, Miss Regina Lvtjen,
M iss Johanna Daly and Mrs.
Josephine Rollinson will represent
the alumnae at the quarterly
^meeting of the D.C.C.W., in
Brunswick December 9.
Plans were discussed for a
Christmas party to be held De
cember 18.
Mrs. William J. Lyle and Mrs.
Frank Winders were introduced
as new members.
Mrs. Rollinson reported on the
N. C.C.W. convention which was
held November 10 in Chicago. It
was stated that the annual mass
will be offered this month.
Mrs. Hazel Franklin, home
economist, was guest speaker. She
demonstrated the different holi
day foods and arrangements.
Mrs. Sarah H. Burns, home eco
nomics instructor at St. Vincent’s
Academy, was in charge of re
freshments.
If the speeder could see himself
as others see him many highway
accidents could be avoided.
AUGUSTA, Ga.—The 125th an
niversary of the founding of the
Religious Order of The Sisters
of Mercy, will be celebrated in
the Music Hall of Bell Auditori
um Dec. 14 when students of
Sacred Heart School, assisted by
jaiumnae attending Mt. St. Jos
eph’s Academy, will present a
pageant.
The girls school choir, wear
ing white robes with large red
bow ties, directed by Sr. Mary
Gilbert, will present the musical
program.
The order of the pageant pre
sented in five scenes, is as fol- j

PITTSBURGH—A three-month
jail sentence and fine of $4,500
imposed on “religious junk” deal
er Murray Kram was postponed
in federal court here, pending ac
tion on Kram’s appeal for a new
trial.
Kram, convicted in June of
mail fraud in his operation of
mailing cheap religious trinkets to
“Catholic sounding” names and
soliciting $1 donations, was re
leased on $2,500 bond by U.S.
District Court Judge Rabe F.
Marsh.
Judge Marsh, who ordered
Kram placed on five years proba
tion following his jail term, said
the packages mailed by Kram
gave some persons the impression
“they were in receipt of a solicita
tion from a religious or charitable
organization.”
Kram’s firm was known as the
Religious Distributing Company.
It mailed packages containing
cheaply produced crosses and
medals. In each package was a
statement asking the recipient to
send $1 if the articles were satis
factory.
Postal authorities contended
that it was not made clear in the

be given Friday afternoon. There
is no admission charge. The pub
lic is invited.

Ass’n. Meets
MACON, Ga. — The November
meeting of St. Joseph’s Home and
School Association was held in the
school auditorium Wednesday
night, November 14, and was pre
sided over by Mrs. Robert Young,
president.. Sister Martina Joseph,
principal, opened the meeting
with prayer.
The Cultural Development Com
mittee, headed by Mrs. William
Cassidy, Jr., reported that twenty-
four symphony orchestra records
had been purchased for classroom
use: Joe Genone, Athletic Com
mittee chairman, announced that
the K of C would entertain the
football team and the cheerlead
ers with a banquet at which time
awards would, be presented.
The Association voted to pro
vide Venetian blinds for the first,
second and third grade class
rooms.
Sister Martina Joseph spoke to
the group and thanked Mr. Nick
Pasculis for the projector he pre
sented to the school. She also
thanked Mrs. Clem Dennis and
Mrs. Ed Hatcher for Pansy plants,
Azaleas and dogwood trees given
for the school yard.
Mrs. Robert Hinson introduced
Mr. Albert J. Kirkpatrick who
spoke on “Music in the Home.”
Approximately 250 members at

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Funeral
services 4or Mr. Frank Patrick
Gallagher were held November
17th at the Cathedral of St. John
the Baptist.
Survivors are his wife Mrs.
Blanc-ne Sheehan Gallagher of
Augusta, and two daughters.
ALBANY—St. Teresa’s Parent-
Teacher Association met Wednes
day, November 14th, in the school
auditorium with the president,
Mrs. James Sineath, presiding.
Father Daniel J. Bourke opened
the meeting with a prayer.
Mrs. George Jenkins and Mrs.
William Burgess, chairmen of the
Halloween Carnival, thanked all
the members for their work in
helping to make the affair such a
big success. It was voted that the
P.-T.A. give a check for $2,000,
the proceeds from the carnival,
to the building fund. The presi-

vena and the Day of Recollec
tion that followed. He also gave

Teresa’s School. During the No
vena, a 9:00 a. m. Mass was added
to the daily schedule to enable
mothers to attend and services
were held each evening at 8
o’clock. These services included
novena prayers, a sermon by Fr.
Glynn and Benediction.
A Day of Recollection, spon
sored by the Legion of Mary, for
the ladies of St. Teresa’s parish
was held on Tuesday, Nov. 20th.
The Day of Recollection started
with the 9:00 o’clock Mass and
ended with Benediction at 2:00
o’clock. Father Glynn’s opening
address emphasized that this was
a happy occasion. He also stated
we should do our best and then
trust in God not try to carry the
burdens of the world.
The Conferences that followed
were about the orgin of the Ros
ary and the Seven Sacraments.
There was also an interesting
discussion in which Father Glynn
told the ladies to answer their
non-Catholic friends’ questions
about religion in a kind and in
telligent manner and try to al-

new convent that is to be dedicat
ed soon.
