Robert S. Lynch Addresses
Gainesville Holy Name Group
GAINESVILLE. Ga., — The
Holy Name Society of St. Mich
ael’s Church held its December
meeting in the form of a “father
and son” Communion breakfast.
The featured speaker for the oc
casion was Robert S. Lunch, pres
ident of Atlantic Steel Company,
of Atlanta, Georgia. The meeting
was held in the ballroom of the
Dixie Hunt Hotel.
The members of the Holy
Name Society attended 8:00 Mass
and partook of Holy Communion
as a group. After Mass the mem
bers recited the Litany of the
Holy Name of Jesus which was
followed by the Benediction of
the Blessed Sacrament. At. 9:30
the members and guests met for
breakfast. The ballroom was dec
orated with festive Christmas
wreathes and soft Christmas
music was furnished throughout
breakfast.
After breakfast, Jim Conrads, j
the Society’s president, introduc-1
ed the guests. Visiting guests
from Atlanta were Monsignor
Edward Dodwell, former pastor
of St. Michael’s Church, the Rev
erend Joseph McManus, and
Michael Lynch, the son of Mr.
Robert S. Lynch.
After a short business meeting
the group was entertained with
a musical program by members!
of Brenau College. A trio com-1
posed of Miss Joy Vee Brown,
Miss Janice Martin, Miss Thelma!
Clay and their accompanist, Miss!
Erica Morgan performed the fol
lowing selections: “They Slept
That Night in Bethlehem”, by!
Shubert; “Jesus Rest Your Head”, j
an Appalachan Folk Song: and'
“Carol of the Serephs”, by Banks.
Miss Marie O’Kelley and accom-
paniest, Miss Erica Morgan, per
formed the following selections:
“Jesus Bambino”, by Yon; and
“O Holy Night”, by Adams.
Among the speakers were the
Reverend Michael J. Manning,
pastor of St. Michael’s Church,
Monsignor Edwai'd Dodwell and
Jim Cameron who introduced the
principal speaker. Robert S.
Lynch. The subject of Mr. Lynch’s
talk was “Character and Leader
ship” as they are to be applied
in living from day to day. Mr.
Lynch also emphasized the great
growth and advancement in the
Atianta-Gainesville area, and of
the opportunities which lie in
the future.
Mr. Lynch came South to At
lanta in 1944 as general superin
tendent o f the Atlantic Steel
Company. In 1946 ’ he was made
vice-president, and in January
1947, he was elected president,
which position he now holds. In j
August 1955, he was elected chair-,
man of the borad and chief ex- j
ecutive officer of Continental Gin
Company, Birmingham, Alabama.
He is Director of: Atlantic
Steel Company, Continental Gin
Company, American Iron and
Steel Institute, Atlanta Freight

Lynch, a convert to the Church,
was honored with a Papal medal
“Pro et Pontifice.” The medal,
given by. Pope Pius XII, is for out
standing work “for the Church
and the Holy Father”. Mr. Lynch
headed the Atlanta division of the
recent Diocesan fund-raising cam
paign.

the American Red Cross.
Among his other activities, Mr.
Lynch is a member of the Ad
visory Council for Science and
Engineering, University of Notre
Dame, and has served as State
and city chairman of numerous
civic organizations.
