continue his work for the doc-
trate in English Literature, it was
announced today. At present he
is doing advance graduate studies
at the University of North Caro
lina and the grant will enable
him to complete a special research
project in the field of literature.
The Abbey priest completed
work in Canon law in Rome, It
aly, and then began his special
work at Oxford University. He is
now a candidate for the Ph. D.
degree at Chapel Hill and the
Fellowship grant will enable him
to complete the special study he
has undertaken for his degree.
The announcement of the grant
was made known by Mr. Robert
Lester, the Executive Director of
Southern Fellowship Fund, which j
was established to carry out a j
program of assistance for advance
study and research to instructors
in the colleges and universities
of the south with funds granted
by the General Education Board.
Father John is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. H. Glenn Oetgen of Sa
vannah. Georgia. He graduated
from Benedictine High School and
attended Belmont Abbey College.
He entered the Benedictine Order
in 1944 and was ordained a priest
in 1950. He studied at San An-
slem in Rome, Italy, and Oxford
University in England. He was as
sistant Dean of Men at Belmont
Abbey College last year and
undertook special graduate work
for his doctrate at the University
of North Carolina in 1958.

Antonio Punaro
AUGUSTA, Ga.—Funeral serv
ices for Antonio Punaro were held
March 29th at St. Patrick’s
Church, Rev. Arthur Weltzer of
ficiating.
Mr. Punaro, a grocer and a mu
sician, was born in Italy but had
lived in this country for many
years. As a musician, he former
ly played at the Imperial Theater
in Augusta.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Rosa Z. Punaro of Annapolis; a
daughter, Mrs. Joe Muleri of An
napolis; two sons, Angelo Punaro
of Macon, and Vincent Punaro of
Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs.
I Catherine Barallo of Nashville;
three . brothers, Edward Punaro
| of Augusta and North Augusta,
James Punaro and Paul Punaro,
! both of Nashville; and nine grand-
| children.
