Mc Guire, former assistant varsity coach of basketball at Dartmouth College, has been appointed bas ketball. coach at Belmont Abbey College. Ai McGuire is well known in coliegiate basketball circles, both as a college star at St. John’s University, Brooklyn, and in pro fessional basketball with the New York Knickerbockers. A native of New York, he played high school basketball at St. John’s Prep and four years varsity ball at St. John’s University, where he captained the team in his senior year. He played three years professionally and then went to Dartmouth as Freshman Coach of Basketball, and As sistant Varsity Coach for the past three years. The Abbey officials are well pleased with the selection after a long period of screening many applications for the position of basketball coach to succeed Neild Gordon, who resigned the Abbey post last May to return as As-' sistant Coach at his Alma Mater, Furman University. “McGuire comes highly recommended as one who knows basketball.” the Very Rev. Cuthbert E. Alien, O. S.B., president of the college, stat ed, “and we are happy with the selection of the committee. Mr. McGuire has all the qualifications that we desire in a member of our faculty.” The president stat ed that he will also teach in the Department of History and will assist in the Abbey’s intramural program. McGuire is a 26-year-old, 6 ft. 3 in. Irishman, is married and has three children. He will re port for duty in September. SERVICES FOR GORDON HALE ATLANTA — Funeral services for Gordon Steed Hale were held July 23rd at the Cathedral of Christ the King. The Rev. John J. Mulroy officiating. Augusta Services For Rondle Keffer AUGUSTA — Funeral services for Rondle Keffer were held July 22nd from St. Mary’s-on-the-Hill Church. Mr. Keffer is survived by his widow, five sons, James F. and Thomas H. Keffer, both of Au* gusta, Rondle J. Keffer, U. S. Navy, Edward L., and John A, Keffer, both of Whistler, Ala.3 one sister, Mrs. Vanda Conlon, o£ Mammough, 111., and three grand children.
