A PSALM OF GOLF.
By W. A. Thompson.
I broke a hundred, John, my son—
I did, so help me Jonah!
I dropped a putt for ninety-one,
So smoke this large Corona!
For forty years I toiled away
My poor old score to shorten;
I worked till I was grim and gray
With clubs purloined and boughten.
And by and by, I says, says I,
“I’ll never live to make it;
But I shall die a fighting guy
Endeavoring to break it.”
And now I’ve landed my desire
I do some high-powered thinking,
“Shall I quit golf and so retire
To peaceful sports like drinking?"
“Not on. your life!” I gayly peal,
“I’ll start again tomorrow
With clubs I find and clubs I steal
And all that I can borrow.”
“And when the Final Trump shall
sound
Its summons loud and weighty,
I’ll merely say “One moment, Bo,
This putt will give me eighty!”
THE GIDDY WHIRL.
Hostess: “But, my dears, why are
you leaving so early?”
Little Girl: “We’re awfully sorry,
but we have to go to another party an'
we want to get there before the ice
cream’s all gone.
GILT-EDGED MODESTY.
They say that Ford is so democratic
that he is not ashamed to ride in one
of his own cars. It recalls the story of
the hard-boiled captain of industry to
whom a friend was introducing a
young man just out of college and
seeking a job. “He is a fine, modest
young man,” said the friend.
"Modest?” snorted the big man.
“What in thunder has he ever done
to become modest about?”—Norfolk
Virginian-Pilot.
CRUDE STUFF.
Dear Mrs. McGowan, across the hall,
was speaking of the trouble she’s been
having with her car.
“But everybody has trouble lately,”
she said; “and it’s nothing in the
world but them using these raw ma
terials at the factories.”—Motor Life.
LET “PAT DO IT”
510 Courtland St.
EPITAPH.
Peacefully sleeping,
Lieth Bill Lane.
In his Ford he tried
To derail a train.
Dad (seriously)—My boy, don’t you
think it’s about time for you to stand
alone ?
Son (cheerfully)—Sure, dad. I can
stand a loan any time.
Suggestion to irresponsible Ford
drivers: FIJvy and let flivv.
