He said “I knew what “ .was the matter all the time, but donld not help you.” He had an W expenence since his boyhood, but had never gone to the church, SPNow” sfid he, “I want you to go But I felt too unworthy to . do bo, though I did love* the church but copld not get the courage to tell so; Old brother Stallings cauie over to see me and gave me some encouragement, and a few xnonws later we both went and Were received. I then thought my were all past, bat soon , rs was in darkness of mind, and so it has been ever since. Like David <1 am sometimes praising the Lord and sometimes 1 am low down in Mfr ■ the valley. ‘ I have been sick nearly ever since I have been here, and there has been but one member of the church to see me yet,Oh how deso |||k late and lonely I am. But God knows how much we can bear and still live. Dear brother I had no idea of writ bin; so much when I began. I hope to be remembered by you at a throne of grace. Your little weak sister, if one at all. Polly, A. Knight -■"I I -!■ 1.. ■' Math, Ga., Nov. 3rd 1895. Dear Brother Hauks:—l have a desire this morning to write you some of my feelings, as 1 hope has I been-the dealings of the Lor i with < *me. Although I feel so weak and i unworthy, I hardly know how to ’ commence. I feel that the deal- t jogs of the Lord with me, has been so gre»?fr»£i f t.he change from na-Jj tore tc grace (ifjt all) has 1 - - a£* > ‘ until I can only praise him sot 1 his goodness and mercies in spar ing me to live while in this state of sin rebellion. • * lam often cast down and made t to mourn on the account of sin I and unfitness, but while I am cast < down and made to feel my weak ness and impurity here in this unfriendly world,l can not bear my part with the patience that Job did. But I know there is a blessed Savior who is able and willing to Leal all our wounds and afflictions and make our path straight. Christ has borne all that we have W oare and even died that we might live. He tells us in his blessed word. “I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, 1 will come again and re ceive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also,” I am ’ ’ so often made to see, and feel, my nothingness in the sight of our heavenly Master until I often feel as the apostle ‘-with in me there dwelleth no thing,” and within myself I can do nothing But send up praises to his holy name for what he has done for me. I have done nothing for him, but he has done it all for me. I have always tried to live a moral life, but I often find my self out of the way, yeilding to « /■ w VtT _ _ /■» <1 the flesh. We are all ot eucn a deprived nature, so vile, so prone to sin, till xvo always ‘choose evil, rather than good. I have mooved along from my youth to the pres ent time, ia siu tmd transgression, and have often thought what would- become of me in the last day, if I went on in this way. But this would soon ware off, and I would not become so seriously troubled about my future destiny, • until about six or eight months ago, when I became more deeply impressed to join the Old Primitive Baptist church, and live with the * people whom I so much loved and believed in. But I could see no goodness and fitness in myself, - and could never fee] fit and wor thy to offer my feeble sjelf to the church, and so I would go on with T | heart trying to hide ‘ my impressions waiting for fitness i and belter evidence, but dear I brother my experience is now that ! this fitness and brighter evidence i Lever cbme: none of us feel fit to s be there. Ido not feel fit or worthy to be there but this bur , den and impressions that I have , been carrying has .brought me there. I procrastinated and car ried it as long as I could. The night before I was baptised the next day, was a night that will alwavs be remembered by me as a night of wW. Surely that was the most miserable night I.have ever expe rienced. Oh wretched me! how little and insignificant I felt myself to be, and it seemed to me that of all the little things of this world Lfalt myself to ba the least of ail, and I wottfd have bean willing to exchanged places with the most uusiguificant being. I tried for re lief to my poor soul to pray and ask the good Lord what would he have me to do, that I might be relieved of this trouble and it appeared to me that, a voice spoke to mo and said. Go and join the church and be baptised and you will find rest for your weary soul, and after I heard this voice I was then made willing to go. And after I went and joined the church and was baptised I foufid that sweet rest there that I had so much desired. I felt that I had dis charged my duty and I was then relieved of that burden that I had been carrying, and oh how much better I lelt. The teil was then re moved from over , my face and I could then begin to see and realize things that I had never been able to see before, I could then begin to realize what joy and comfort there was there for the weary seul but I could not see it while on the out side and my experience is tli°* i none see it while on the out side. ' We have to be burdened in grief ** and trouble before we are made ' willing to turn from the ways .of 1 this world and make this sucrifie J feel that the church is a h J* «»H Fid ft huoU iuiftd do not feel to be per feet, but feel very unworthy and imperfect, but am so glad to havo a home with these dear ones. I feel that these are the dear people that I want to live with the balance of my days while I am traveling in this unfriendly world below, although we have doubts and fears and satan tempts us and I am yet sometimes made to ask my self the' question and wonder it lam anything or not, but if I am anything at all it is by the grace of God that I am what I am and I would not exchange my lit- tle hope and be back like I once was for nothing in this world. Hoping dear brother that you will have a mind to visit us, while on < your tour in the bounds of the 3 Lower Canoochee Association, for indeed we would be so glad to have you. We miss you at our meetings, we miss you at our home and indeed we those comfort ing words, that are so soothing and precious to us. How sad tis to past and be sep arated, but we should ba consoled when we know that the same spir it that saves one saves all, and the same Savior that saves one saves all.* While tie our lot to be separat ed here in this unfriendly world; we hope to meet again on yonders ' shore where all is peace and hap- pines and there’ll be no parting* ! there.
