The digits of a number —as most of our readers know —are the numbers composing the same ; thus, 7,6, 3 are the digits of 763, and the addition of these would be as follows : 7x6x3=16, and then 1 and 6 are 7. Now, what number is that which if multiplied by itself, or any other number, and the digits of the result be added together until a single figure is produced, will always give the half of itself? We are authorized to present a year’s subscrip tion to Burke’s Weekly to the one who first sends in a correct answer to the above, with a satisfac tory reason for the fact. NO. 244. — ENIGMA. I am composed of six letters — Asa whole children do not like me. My 2,3, 4,5, 6is applied to a certain kind of persons. My 3,4, 5,6 no one likes. My 2,3, 4,6 is a preposition. My 2,3, 4is a good thing to have. My 3, 4 is a pronoun. My 1,3, 4is what you generally do when you eat. My 6,3, 4is what many bullets did to men du ring the late war. NO. 246. — ARITHMETICAL QUESTION. What number is that, to which if 4 be added, 7 subtracted, multiplied by 8, and divided by o, the quotient will be 64? In answering, please give the process? J. N.
