KO. 94. —RIDDLES.
1. What is the longest, and yet the shortest
thing in the world; the swiftest, and the
most slow; the most divisible, and the most
extended; the least valued, and the most
regretted; without which nothing can be
done; which devours everything, however
small, and yet gives life and spirit to every
object, however groat?
2.
Two sisters we are, great burdens we bear;
By some we are heavily pressed;
We are full all the day, but in truth I may
say,
Are empty when we go to rest.
3.
A tall and slender shape I bear,
No lady’s skin more white and fair;
My life is short and doth decay
So soon it rarely lasts a day ;
If in the evening brought to light,
I make my exit during night.
4.
In little infants I am seen,
And angels help to make them ;
Their tiny graves I enter in,
Nor after death forsake them.
But when I’m placed the men beside,
“ So be it,” sad, I say;
Yet to one man I am allied,
From whom I ne’er may stray.
Foremost in Adam I appear,
Then in his race am found ;
In earth deep buried, dwell in air,
And in the sea am drowned.
5.
A word of one syllable, easy and short,
Reads backward and forward the same;
It expresses the sentiments warm from the
heart,
And to beauty lays principal claim.
6. In Spring I revive you; in Summer I
cool you ; in Autumn I nourish you; and in
Winter I warm you.

Manufacturers of
GRAND, SQUARE and UPRIGHT
PIANO-FORTES,
Warorooms, 360 W. Baltimore st., nr. Eutaw,
BALTIMORE, MD.
THESE Instruments have been before the
public for nearly thirty years, and upon
their excellence alone attained an unpur
chased pre-eminence, which pronounces them
unequalled. Their tone combines great power,
sweetness, and fine singing quality, as well
as great purity of intonation, and evenness
throughout the entire scale. Their touch is
pliant and elastic, and entirely free from the
stiffness found in so many pianos. In work
manship they are unexcelled ; using none but
the. very best seasoned material, the large
capital employed in our business enabling us
to keep continually an immense stock of lum
ber, etc., on hand.
All our square pianos have our new impro
ved overstrung scale and the Agraffe treble.
We would call special attention to our
late improvements in GRAND PIANOS and
SQUARE GRANDS (patented August 14th,
1866), which bring the piano nearer perfection
than has yet been attained.
Every piano fully warranted for five years.
