J.B.
(JAMES BROWN, “GOD FATHER OF SOUL”)
By LEE KING
When you wanted to be
funky and get DOWN, all
you had to do was play
anything by JAMES
BROWN. Coming out of
Augusta, GA. J.B. was
“OUT OF SIGHT”. He liv
ed up to his name “MR.
DYNAMITE” Starting out
on LITTLE RICHARD’S
SHOW, Brown decided not
to be anyone’s FLUNKY. So
he showed us all how to “MAKE IT FUNKY”. He told all
the women to remember not to NAG, because your “OLD
PAPA’S GOT A BRAND NEW BAG”. With the famous
flames, J.B. was the music world’s man of the HOUR. He
made his life and career the true example of “SOUL
POWER”. J.B.’s business acumen showed that he was
nobody’s FOOL. He endeared himself to the public by urging
kids to “STAY IN SCHOOL” When it looked like J.B. had
hid his head in the CLOUDS, he reminded us all to “SAY
IT LOUD, I’M BLACK AND I’M PROUD”. Jealousy and
envy in official circles landed J.B. in JAIL.But the story of
J.B.‘s music was only beginning to JELL. The rappers brought
J.B.’s MUSIC TO A NEW GENERATION, and the youths
begin dancing to the music of J.B. throughout the NATION.
MACEO, BOBBY BYRD, and FRED WESLEY became
popular with the RAPPERS OF TODAY. But everyone
wanted to find out about the godfather who showed them the
WAY. THE GODFATHER is back and is still “OUT OF
SIGHT” and his godchildren, like Hammer, are doing it up
RIGHT. Thank you GODFATHER for being awake while
others chose to NAP, because you told us the future in your
60’s song “BROTHER RAP”.
The copyright to this poetic rap belongs to brother Michael
Dixon of DURHAM, EN CEE. Lee King knew that ZEBRA
readers would be pleased, don’t you AGREE?!
