In addition to the demonstrations and
other means of drawing public attention,
Williams said that the use of lawsuits will
help those racist attitudes disappear. He
claims that “70 to 80 percent” of the
black employees who work for the com
panies targeted by Employees for Justice
have filed suit, and when the legal smoke
clears some of these companies will have
suffered millions of dollars in losses.
Once these millions start flowing in,
Williams hopes the recipients will set
aside some money to continue the fight
against discrimination. This money, he
feels, should be available to any victim
of bias regardless of race, creed, color,
or sex.
Some of the business community
charge that the actions of Employees for
Justice are harmful to attracting new
plants and more jobs into Clarke Coun
ty. Members of a Chamber of Commerce
committee, which was trying to lure the
Mercedes Benz plant here, partially fault
an Employees for Justice sponsored
Labor Day march and rally for the
automaker choosing Alabama over
Athens for its American plant site.
To those critics Williams replies, “No
matter what company, no matter if
you’re paying $20 an hour or $30 an
hour, if you’re going to be racially bias
ed; if you’re going to deny us promo
tions; if you’re going to give us menial
jobs and if you’re going to treat us like
boys and girls, we would prefer that you
don’t come.
“We’re going to march. We’re going
to protest. We’re going to file lawsuits
on any company, on any industry, or any
business that does not treat its employees
fair.”
“Big shot.” “Out for self.” “Uncle
Tom.” “Trying to act like a big nigger.”
These comments come not from some of
his industrial enemies, but from a few of
the very people that Williams is fighting
for. Perhaps blinded by envy or jealous
of his courage, they see him as trying to
use this movement for his own
advancement.
As harsh as those comments sound,
Williams professes not to be hurt by
them. “It doesn’t hurt,” he said,
“because it’s not true.”
The father of four (Dorosa, 18; twins
Kyra and Kyna, 17; and Antara, 14), said
that no one has offered him any great
riches, or positions of influence to be out
front in this movement. Instead he said
he is motivated by trying to create a non-
discriminatory world for his and other
black children.
“My main goal is to make sure that
my children, in the future, don’t get
treated like a nigger. And, your children
don’t get treated like a nigger. I do this
because I believe in it,” he said.
“What makes me feel good is that
when my children look over at me they
see a man. A true man lives up to his
responsibilities. I try to live up to my
responsibilities not only to my wife
(Miranda) and children, but I also try to
live up to my responsibilities to my peo
ple. I feel that someone has to do it. So,
why not me?”
Dorsey Williams, no matter what ad
jectives one selects to describe him, all
have to be impressed by his spirit of com
mitment, his organizing skills, and his
desire to see people treated fairly.

Friendship, Communication and
Companionship in a Marriage
It saddens my heart so much, when
I see my friends being so miserable in
their marriages... so much so until the
only solution they see is divorce.
Whatever happened to friendship,
communication and companionship.
Friendship, communication and
companionship in marriage have the
potential for greater depth than any other relationship, for in
marriage there needs to be no covering of any kind. But,
remember it takes time for trust to develop so you can fully
reveal yourself. In Genesis 2:25 - the man and his wife were
both naked, and they felt no shame.
You and l were created for companionship. Friendship is
a fullfilling part of our lives. Genesis 2:18 - it is not good for
the man to be alone. Ask yourself the question — Do I enjoy
my mate’s presence, thoughts, and communications? Do I en
joy working side by side with my spouse as a friend?
Friendship is part of God’s intention for marriage.
Remember though, friendship, companionship and com
munication are reciprocal. Both partners “must” invest time
