ZEBRA MAGAZINE SALUTES MISS
JEANETTE, A MOLDER IN THE COM
MUNITY. In 1955, Miss Jeannette, under
the guidance of her mother Ms. Katie M.
Martin fondly known as Ms. Katie Mae,
opened the doors of the Humpty Dumpty
Day Care Center. The center began in the
basement of her home.
Ms. Katie Mae worked with Miss
Jeanette to establish a program that laid the
foundation that provided a head start to all
the children who are the alumni of Hump
ty Dumpty Day Care Center.
Miss Jeanette established a very fruitful
program. The children who attended the
center in the early years were from families
that were very close to Miss Jeanette and
the Martin Family, but as the years pass
ed, other families realized that the child care
services received at Humpty Dumpty Day Care Center were delivered in
a safe, loving, and competent environment. They began bringing their
children to learn from Miss Jeanette.
In 1978, a dream came true for Miss Jeanette. The doors opened to a
new facility. Even though Miss Katie Mae passed away before the doors
opened, it was apparent that her spirit guided the dream that became a reality.
After 39 years, Miss Jeanette leaves the child development field fondly
looking back at all the children with a warm feeling, and knowing that she
touched each of their lives. Now that many of these children have grown
to adults, they are themselves parents, but they are also students, health
professionals, supervisors, Legislators, secretaries, educators, civil workers,
and much, much more.
